Level 80+ Commissioned Gear

There are a growing number of "special" armor sets and gear items requiring adventurer-obtained items, as well as skilled crafters. This, understandably, causes a growing confusion as to who can craft which, and how. This guide is intended to inform both the crafter and the customer of the requirements for each item.

This guide will cover heirloom and no-trade gear that needs the commission crafting system: crafted battleground (BG) armor, crafted void shard armor, crafted mark of manaar armor, crafted velium shard armor and other crafted gear from Velious 1 dungeon drops.

Battleground Armor

Crafted battleground (BG) armor now comes in three types: level 80 SF mastercrafted (tradeable), level 90 SF mastercrafted (tradeable), and level 90 Velious (heirloom). The first two do NOT require the commission system, but are included here for completeness' sake.

Level 80 Mastercrafted BG Armor

The first type of battleground armor, added with the Sentinel's Fate expansion has an equip requirement of level 80.
Crafter: These will require a level 79+ tailor (for cloth and leather), or a level 79+ armorer (for chain and plate). Crafted pieces (before equipping) are fully tradeable, and can be bought/sold on the broker
Recipe books: are sold in Mara on the Far Seas Supply Division faction vendor, and will require both 10K faction and Far Seas Supply Division tokens. (Tailor's Secrets of the Battlegrounds, Metalshaper's Secrets of the Battlegrounds)
Ingredients: The cloth sets require mantrap root as a primary, the leather require hidebound pelt, the chain/plate require incarnadine cluster. They also require 10 smoldering fuel (filament for tailored, coal for metal armor) and tier 8 common resources.
Set Names: Barkskin (warden/fury) - tailor, Restorative (mystic/defiler) - armorer, Ulteran (mages) - tailor, War Painted (Paladin/Shadowknight) - armorer, Wyrmhide (bruiser/monk) - tailor, Runescribed (inquisitor/templar) - armorer, Moonshadow (scouts) - armorer)
Eye-Candy: You can view the appearance of these sets here

Level 90 (SF) Mastercrafted BG Armor

This tradeable/sellable set comes from recipes available in the Sentinel's Fate expansion, and was considered the basic "starter" set for level 90 battlegrounds until the GU60 battlegrounds revamp.

Crafter: Level 80+ Tailor for the cloth/leather sets, Level 80+ Armorer for the chain/plate sets
Recipe Books: Available with 40K faction from the Kerra Isle Outfitters faction. Books are heirloom. (Tailor's Battleground Secrets of the Kerra, Armorer's Battleground Secrets of the Kerra)
Ingredients: Rares - toxnettle root (cloth), spotted pelt (leather), brellium ore (chain/plate). In addition to the appropriate rare per piece, 10 ethereal filament cloth/leather) or ethereal coal (chain/plate) will be needed along with common tier 9 harvests.
Set Names: Kejekan Scout (scout) - armorer, Invigorating Barkskin (fury/warden) - tailor , Battleworn Gruengach (shadowknight/paladin) - armorer, Horned Gruengach (inquisitor/templar) - armorer, Empowered Restorative (mystic/defiler) - armorer, Kerra War (bruiser/monk) - tailor, Rune-scribed Ulteran (mage) - tailor
Eye-Candy: You can view the appearance of these sets here

Level 90 ("New"/GU60) BG Armor

The items from these recipes, added with GU60, work a bit differently than normal armor recipes. The items produced are heirloom, which means that the commission crafting system will need to be used. We're used to that part. However, instead of crafting an armor piece for a specific slot, the crafter creates a generic item called one of the following: Vanquisher's Silk Armor (cloth/tailor), Vanquisher's Leather Armor (leather/tailor), Vanquisher's Chain Armor (chain/armorer), or Vanquisher's Plate Armor (plate/armorer). The customer then can examine the generic item to unpack their chosen armor piece of that type (the silk unpacks to cloth pieces, the leather to leather, etc.)

Crafter: Level 80+ Tailor (cloth/leather), Level 80+ Armorer (chain/plate)
Recipe Books: Vanquisher's Armorsmithing, Vanquisher's Tailoring. Sold on Delvin Hailstorm, next to the mailbox in the crafting area of Thurgadin
Ingredients: Rares - toxnettle root (cloth), spotted pelt (leather), brellium ore (chain/plate). In addition to the appropriate rare per piece, 10 ethereal filament cloth/leather) or ethereal coal (chain/plate) will be needed along with common tier 9 harvests.
Set Names: Not needed. All the customer needs to tell the proper crafter is if they need silk or leather (tailor), chain or plate (armorer) in the Vanquisher's set, and they then commission a "pouch" that they examine in inventory to unpack and select the desired item for their class.

Instance/Dungeon/Raid Shard/Mark Armor

Void Shard Armor

This gear is for level 80 adventurers, and requires heirloom void shards from TSO missions as the main component. The resulting armor is also heirloom, so the commission crafting system must be used.
Crafter: Any level 70+ crafter (any class) can make these items, with the appropriate books.
Recipe Books: These books are sold on the Far Seas Supply Division (FSSD)faction vendor in Mara, and require 40K faction as well as FSSD tokens to purchase. Far Seas Strategic Pricing Manual, Volume I (T1 armor); Far Seas Strategic Pricing Manual, Volume II (T1 jewelry/etc); Far Seas Strategic Pricing Manual, Volume III (T2 armor); Far Seas Strategic Pricing Manual, Volume IV (T2 jewelry/etc). (You want the set that does not have "Edition" as part of the name, since there are now a lot of pricing manuals to choose from)
Ingredients: The void shards, which must be provided by the customer, act as the "fuel", other ingredients are all tier 8 common harvests. For a listing of how many shards it takes for most items, check out the Crafted Void Shard Armor Guide
Set Names: Too many to list, since this covers both "T1 shard" and the "T2 shard" gear and accessories. Customers should browse the four vendors at the Dropship Landing area of Moors of Ykesha to be sure of item names before they approach a crafter. Having these items crafted, instead of buying them from those vendors will save the adventurer some void shards

Mark of Manaar Armor

This gear is for level 85/90 adventurers, and requires heirloom mark of manaar from SF missions as the main component. The resulting armor is also heirloom, so the commission crafting system must be used.
Crafter: Any level 90+ crafter (any class) can make these items, with the appropriate books.
Recipe Books: These books are sold on the Far Seas Supply Division (FSSD)faction vendor in Mara, and require 40K faction as well as FSSD tokens to purchase. Far Seas Strategic Pricing (2nd Edition) Volume I (level 85 gear); and Far Seas Strategic Pricing (2nd Edition), Volume II (level 90 gear)
Ingredients: The marks of manaar, which must be provided by the customer are treated as fuel. The other ingredients are T9 common resources.
Set Names: Too many to list again. The customer should browse the vendors in Paineel for the level 85 names/stats/etc, or the vendors in Moonfield for the level 90 names/stats/etc before approaching a crafter. Having these items crafted, instead of buying them from those vendors will save the adventurer some marks.

Velious Armor Sets - Thurgadin

While this armor originally required primal velium shards, this is no longer the case. Requirements have dropped down to common materials and fuel. Crafter: Level 90+ crafter (any class) with the appropriate book
Recipe Books: Far Seas Strategic Pricing (3rd Edition) Volume I. This book is a random heirloom drop from the daily Mara group crafting missions. Adventurers should note that this book can take numerous repetitions of the dailies in order to obtain it.
Ingredients: T9 common resources and fuels:
(Note that Chest pieces are instance-drop only.)
Set Names: for the set name for your specific class, visit the vendor on the Thurgadin docks.

Velious Armor Sets - Ry'Gorr

The second set of DoV shard armor requires scintillating gems. Heirloom rough gems drop in certain DoV dungeons, and must be processed by a crafter (via commission) to turn them into tradeable scintillating gems. The gem needed is based on armor slot:

  • Head (Black Marble)
  • Shoulders (Diamond)
  • Forearms (Citrine)
  • Gloves (Emerald)
  • Legs (Lava Ruby)
  • Boots (Jaundice)
Again, the chest piece is dungeon drop-only. It should also be noted that the gloves and boots from these sets have focus effects on them.
Crafter: Level 90+ crafter (any class) with the appropriate book
Recipe Books: Far Seas Strategic Pricing (3rd Edition) Volume II. This book is a random heirloom drop from the daily Mara group crafting missions. Adventurers should note that this book can take numerous repetitions of the dailies in order to obtain it.
Secondary Recipe Book: If you are having the gem refined, the crafter will need Introduction to Coldain Gem Refining (see Special Ingredients Notes) which is sold in Thurgadin on the Forgemaster faction vendor and will require 10K Forgemasters of Thurgadin faction for purchase.
Ingredients: T9 common materials and fuels, plus a specific scintillating gem as listed above
Special Ingredients Notes: The "scintillating __" gem requires that an heirloom "rough ___" gem of the same type be turned into a scintillating gem by a crafter. This will require 5 ethereal coal as well as a corundum powder (sold in Thurgadin on the Forgemaster faction vendor for 1c.) Scintillating gems are tradeable, but the rough are heirloom, so commissioning will be needed to turn the rough into a scintillating.
Set Names: Too many to mention. The adventurer should browse the wares of Crammon Spirittalker in the Ry'Gorr Keep in Eastern Wastes to find item names, and can get a reminder there of which gem is also needed. Having these items crafted, instead of buying them from those vendors will save the adventurer coin as well as bypass the faction requirement.

Velium Shard Armor - Drunder

Read the ingredients section of this new stuff added with GU60, and you will see why I don't have more details yet. If your head isn't totally spinning, and you can explain this all more clearly, please provide a writeup in our forums! Thanks!

Meanwhile, my own possibly very garbled explanation is: Drunder itself is a non-combat quest hub with entrances to three zones. These three zones contain either heroic or raid content. The adventurer that wishes this high-end armor crafted will be sacrificing many legendary or fabled drops from these instances in order to have a crafter turn it into special ore which is used for the final armor piece. The final armor piece will also require primal velium shards. Note that the ore-crafting must be completed within the Drunder zone, using no-zone fuel that spawns near Brontis. Crafter: Level 90 crafter (any class) who has the appropriate heirloom books
Recipe Books: Heirloom recipe books are sold on Brontis in Drunder, once you have completed the Drunder Crafting Quests. The books are: Ancient Armor of War (the armor), Runed Guidestone of Planar Repurposing (recipes for the various ores)
Ingredients: On top of primal velium shards provided by the adventurer, various amounts of special ores are needed. The ores, which must be crafted via commission while within Drunder, in turn require no-zone fuel from Drunder as well as legendary/fabled drops from the heroic/raid instances in Strategist's Stronghold (Bloodmetal ore), Spire of Rage (Rage Filled ore), or the Tower of Tactics (Warborne Ore). Legendary items from the appropriate zone are crafted into "A small amount of ___" ore (6 ore yield). Fabled items from the appropriate zone are crafted into "A large amount of ____" ore (12 ore yield). You will then need an equal number of primal velium shards and the specific ore in order to craft the heirloom armor item.

  • Brick of Bloodmetal: Head - 35, Shoulders - 40
  • Rage Filled Ore: Forearms - 25, Gloves - 30, Boots - 35
  • Warborne Ore: Legs - 45

Set Names: I'm not going through the full list right now, but they will include the following in the name, based on class:
  • Endemic - Mages
  • Primeval - Scouts
  • Primordial - Fighters
  • Venerable - Clerics

Other Velious Dungeon Drops

There are four DoV dungeon drops used in a variety of recipes. For our purposes, we will lump three of them together, then cover the newest one separately.

Bloodied Remnant of Rage, Frozen Shard of Magic, Globe of Coalescing Shadows

These three items are chest-dropped in harder instances that were added with the DoV expansion, such as Tower of Frozen Shadows. The items produced are heirloom, which means that the commission crafting system will need to be used.

The adventurer must first examine the item and figure out which piece they wish to have commissioned and then must find the proper crafter based on the equipment slot that the item fits in. (Really, truly, don't just ask for a crafter that can make "something from a frozen shard of magic" - specify which exact item you want from the get-go, and you save yourself and the crafters a lot of time and frustrating back-and-forth questions.) Crafter: Level 90 crafters with the proper recipe book can craft items based on the below list:
  • Alchemists - rings
  • Armorers - belts
  • Carpenters - symbols
  • Jewelers - bracelets
  • Provisioners - charms
  • Sages - necklaces
  • Tailors - cloaks
  • Weaponsmith - metal weapons
  • Woodworkers - ranged (bow/satchel), shields

Recipe Books: Recipe books are sold in the Thurgadin crafting area from the Forgemasters of Thurgadin vendor. They are heirloom and require 40K faction with Forgemasters of Thurgadin.
Ingredients: in addition to the dungeon drop, the recipe will need T9 common resources, 10 T9 fuel (exact type depends on item being made, but fuel costs will be just over 15g), and one special Velious-harvested gem (Pristine Onyx, Pristine Nephrite, Pristine Flame Opal). Which gem is needed will vary from item to item so check with your crafter to find out which one you will need to provide.
Item names: examine the dungeon drop in order to see all the items that are available from that specific item.

Aspect of War

This will drop from Drunder instances. The items produced are heirloom, which means that the commission crafting system will need to be used. Like the 3 above, the adventurer will need to examine it in order to decide which item they wish to have crafted. The item slot will decide which crafting class they will need to chase down. Crafter: Level 90 crafters with the proper recipe book can craft items based on the below list:
  • Alchemists - rings
  • Armorers - belts
  • Carpenters - symbols
  • Jewelers - bracelets
  • Provisioners - charms
  • Sages - necklaces
  • Tailors - cloaks
  • Weaponsmith - metal weapons
  • Woodworkers - ranged (bow/satchel), shields

Recipe Books: Heirloom recipe books are sold on Brontis in Drunder, once you have completed the Drunder Crafting Quests
. Books will be named with "Supplying the Armies of War:" at the start of the book name.
Ingredients: in addition to the Aspect of War, the recipe will need T9 common resources, ten T9 fuel (exact type depends on item being made, but fuel costs will be just over 15g), and one special Velious-harvested gem (Pristine Onyx, Pristine Nephrite, Pristine Flame Opal). Which gem is needed will vary from item to item so check with your crafter to find out which one you will need to provide.
Item Names: Examine the Aspect of War to see the exact items that can be crafted, as well as their stats.

A huge thanks to Nindaene from my forums for her help in sorting out the DoV shard armor mess!
