November 7th marks the 2015 Extra Life 24-hour gaming marathon. I ("Niami") will be one of many gamers who will be participating again this year to raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Some folks will be playing board games, other console games, still others PC games. I'll be doing mostly online games of one form or another.
You can find out more about the event, and/or donate at this link.
Since the fibromyalgia makes my noise sensitivity worse, I will NOT join in the livestreaming that many others will be doing. Instead, I will be making updates throughout the 24-hour period to this page, so that folks can see how I am holding up, and what game I might be playing at the time. Stay tuned, folks!
Saturday, 9:10 a.m.
I am here, I am alive, I am online. Facebook is already fired up on the laptop for a couple games to be running there on the side, and I am about to dive into Star Trek: Alien Domain to see how my colonies fared overnight. Once I run amok there for a bit, I'll be headed to either EQ2 beta, or Dragon's Prophet for a while.
10:57 a.m.
Some days it is good to be a Klingon! Yep, I got a bit sidetracked by Star Trek: Alien Domain. Much scouting was done, several colonies were raided, my fleet strength grew a bit, etc. I'll be back there on and off throughout the day, especially for the system battles, where I can defeat Feds to my heart's content. :D
For now, though, I am headed to Dragon's Prophet. The game is closing later this month, and this will be one of the last times I can enter the dragon tournament with my beloved dragons. Until that begins at noon, I'll be working with my dragons and generally running amok, saying goodbye to some of my favorite spots in the game. I'll also see about grabbing a couple screenshots for folks of a couple of my "babies".
1:05 p.m.
I didn't do as well in the tourney as I have in the past, but it is all good. At least "Derpy" got a chance to run amok a bit before we were knocked out. :D As promised, here are just a few of my many dragons over there.
Vesper, renamed to "Vesderp". He's a lovely lawnmower but more than a bit derpy at times
 |
Shockwave Gale, renamed to "Gale Force Wind" A strong healer, and a decent fighter
 |
Bloodred Coral, renamed to "Ben Grimm" I mean, really, aren't there similarities? :D
 |
Eastern dragons are often called noodles So I named him "Pastafarian"
 |
I call him "Daft Punk" Yeah, the band wears funky helmets sometimes too!
 |
Poor Metron, he's a glorious dragon But obtained too soon before the end to do much

3:06 p.m.
I managed to narrow down a bug issue in the EQ2 expansion beta while eating a late lunch in front of the computer, then I spent an hour back over in Star Trek: Alien Domain for the afternoon system battle. I am happy to say my fellow klingons and I won against the Federation, despite low turnout on our side. Heading back into the EQ2 beta now.
5:31 p.m.
I'm still runnning amok in the EQ2 beta. I have Star Trek: Alien Domain running in the background for zoning times, and the laptop is running Ghost Trappers (another facebook game).
8:09 p.m.
As I was slowly chewing through the adventure questline in the EQ2 expansion beta, I decided to check my donation page. Much to my (happy) surprise, some anonymous donor just donated $250 to my Extra Life Campaign. Thank you so much, whoever you are! You just totally made my night!
In between grabbing a few bites of a very belated dinner, I am going to edit some screenshots of some of the house item goodies from the expansion, for the enjoyment of the EQ2 community.
8:38 p.m.: EQ2 Eye Candy, Round 1
This update will contain the crafting-related house items. Sometime later tonight I will code up the buyable house items as well.
First up, when the expansion hits, 4 tile/divider sets get turned into full building block sets. These sets will be automatically added to the appropriate carpenter recipe books (no expansion needed).
Halasian

Indium

Plain Sandalwood

Plain Fulginate

Next, level 100 carpenters will be able to faction in Maldura (crafting dailies and weekly, once the crafting sig line is done), so that they can buy a recipe book full of triangles for existing building block sets.
There are a decent number of handcrafted carpenter items to be made once you faction for the recipe book.
Whoops! The little mechanical spider/bug in the screenshot with the bookcase is actually a tinkered housepet, not a carpenter-made one.
Next up, the carpenter mastercrafted items. Again, you're going to need to do the tradeskill signature line and some faction work before you can get the book.
Sages get several items that can be written in ... oooh, parchments!!!
More eye candy later! Time to run amok amok amok!
11:09 p.m.
Yep. Still alive. Worked through a bit more of the EQ2 adventure questline (I've done the crafting one several times, the adventuring not at all), then went back into Star Trek: Alien Domain for the evening boss fight (took 6th place in damage, but we failed to take down the boss in the allotted time), and 3rd in damage in the evening system battle (but we were trounced by the Feds due to low Klingon turnout). Still a good run, though. I'm going to play a little Bejeweled Blitz on facebook to let my mind wind down from the carnage before I head back into EQ2.
Sunday, 1:56 a.m.
Longest ... hour ... ever.
3:52 a.m.
My cats are unamused with me. They can't sleep with me if I don't go to sleep, and they keep trying to coax me into the bedroom. I flubbed one of the beta quests in EQ2 and will have to redo a dungeon instance when I am rested and clearheaded. I suspect I'd mess up the mechanics of it once again if I tried now. Thankfully, I have other quests I can do and/or other games I can play if I get too frain bried in EQ2 right now.
4:17 a.m.
Before I forget ... again ... here are some more house item screenshots from the EQ2 beta.
Buyable Furniture, various sources
Buyable Housepets, slug trainer in Maldura
5:22 a.m.
Call the body shop, I want replacement parts!
6:39 a.m.
Cough drops are my friend.
7:70 a.m.
I may have become increasingly brain-congested during it, but I survived the early m*rning hour-long system battle in Star Trek Alien Domain. (And yeah, they need a better translator for their system messages.)
I think I need to do some sort of single player game for a bit ...
Sunday, 9:10 a.m.
Oufff! I made it by the skin of my teeth. This last hour was such a struggle. :(
On the plus side, I raised $500 for the Extra Life Campaign. (Donations can be made year-round, but as of the end of the marathon, I am sitting solidly at the $500 mark.) Now for some sleeeeeeeeeeeeep in a pre-heated bed. Heated mattress pads are a wonderful thing.
