ToV: The Essentials of Battle

This is part of the Tears of Veeshan Crafting/Housing Preview for the expansion that was released on November 12, 2013. This quest is unlocked by obtaining the "Fond Memories" crafting quest in Cardin Ward (Obol Plains).

Rewards: This quest offers you your choice of your advanced level 94 recipe book (which most of us have, but some may still be missing), or 10 Far Seas Trading Company tokens. It also offers crafting xp for those that need it, AA xp, and a bit of coin.

Required materials: (My notes are askew and beta is no more. I'll have to edit this once I can run an alt through after launch)

  • 1 ripe mangosteen
  • 1 matoppie roots
  • 2 aduki bean
  • 1 effulgent kindling
  • 2 amethyst
  • 2 rhenium ore
  • 6 iridium cluster
  • 2 effulgent coal
  • 1 effulgent candle
You will also use an engraved desk, a work bench and a stove and keg, all of which are in buildings in Cardin Ward.

Catha is busy defending the walls of Cardin Ward from the Harrowing Horde that are running more amok than they should be, and she needs a bit of help ...

Catha Firebolt says to you, "Ahoy up there! You're new in town, I don't recall seeing you before."
You say to Catha Firebolt, "Hello there! You sound like one of those gnomish pirates."
Catha Firebolt says to you, "Once upon a time I was, aye! I sailed the seas of Norrath and even joined the crew of the mighty Icebreaker that discovered Velious. But now my sailing days are over and I'm tinkering up some assistance to the Wayward defenders who fight the Harrowing Horde."
You say to Catha Firebolt, "A worthy effort. I'm a pretty experienced craftsman; is there anything I can do to help the effort?"
Catha Fireboltsays to you, "Well now, that'd be much appreciated. Why don't you ask our brave defenders out there what they need?"
You say to Catha Firebolt, "I'll do that."

So, trundle over to the three NPCs with books over their heads and have a little chat. (The dwarf's response is wonderfully predictable!)

You say, "Hail, A Wayward arcanist"
a Wayward arcanist says to you, "Stay back! This requires my entire focus!"
You say to a Wayward arcanist, "Sorry to interrupt! Just wanted to check if there's anything I can provide that would help you."
a Wayward arcanist says to you, "Actually, my arcane orb is starting to lose focus from the strain of all these energies. A replacement would be a huge help."
You say to a Wayward arcanist, "I'll see what I can do."
You say, "Hail, A Wayward priest"
a Wayward priest says to you, "Blessings o' Brell upon ye, child."
You say to a Wayward priest, "Er, thank you. How goes the battle? Do you need anything to help?"
a Wayward priest says to you, "Do I need anything? I thought ye'd never ask! There's nothing that would help this battle so much as a cold pint o' Brell's finest ale."
You say to a Wayward priest, "Uh, really?"
a Wayward priest says to you, "Listen, you commune with yer own deity however ye wish, My god is Brell, and I'm sticking to ale. Ye asked, and there's yer answer!"
You say to a Wayward priest, "Fair enough, I'll do my best!"
You say, "Hail, A Wayward magus"
a Wayward magus says to you, "What do you want? Stand back, the magical energy is very unstable!"
You say to a Wayward magus, "Pardon the interruption, I just wanted to check if there's anything that would help with the fight."
a Wayward magus says to you, "Let me think ... hmm. Maybe some kind of amplification crystal to help stabilize the magic fields? "
You say to a Wayward magus, "I'll see what I can come up with."

You will receive "Notes on Wayward defenders' requests", will scribe into "Recipes for Wayward Defenders' Supplies". You will then need to craft those notes into a workable recipe at the engraved desk. "Essential Items for the Wayward Defenders" is the end product, which turns into recipes for Amplification Crystal (work bench), Refreshing Ale (stove & keg), and Arcane Orb (work bench). You will need to craft 1 of each and then bring them back to the Wayward defenders.

You say, "Hail, A Wayward arcanist"
a Wayward arcanist says to you, "Stay back! This requires my entire focus!"
You say to a Wayward arcanist, "Sorry to interrupt again, but I have a new orb for you. Here."
a Wayward arcanist says to you, "This is excellent quality work, far better than my old one. You must have been a talented craftsman indeed in your former life. My thanks!"
You say to a Wayward arcanist, "You're welcome, keep up the good work."
You say, "Hail, A Wayward priest"
a Wayward priest says to you, "Blessings o' Brell to ye!"
You say to a Wayward priest, "Speaking of Brell's blessings, I've brought you that ale."
a Wayward priest says to you, "Then it's me that's truly blessed today, thank ye greatly! Ye've no idea how much this will help with the healing inspiration."
You say to a Wayward priest, "I'm glad I was able to help, best of luck."
You say, "Hail, A Wayward magus"
a Wayward magus says to you, "Be careful, the stability of the magic is unpredictable!"
You say to a Wayward magus, "I'll be careful! And I brought you this amplification crystal. Maybe it will help."
a Wayward magussays to you, "What a fascinating device, I can feel the magical fields becoming steadier already. Impressive work! Thank you!"
You say to a Wayward magus, "You're welcome, I was glad to help."
You say, "Hail, Catha Firebolt"
Catha Firebolt says to you, "How goes it?"
You say to Catha Firebolt, "I believe I supplied a few essential items that should help keep the defenders going. But why do you all stay? Why not just go to rejoin your deity of choice, and leave the Ethernere to the Horde?"
Catha Fireboltsays to you, "Well, that's a fair question. Some of us choose to stay, but some of us have no option. There are some whose deity will not yet judge them, or who have no deity to take them. Poor Vanesta, for example. So some of us choose to stay and help."

Of course, by this time you may have noticed that the Wayward in Ethernere (such as the Wayward arcanist talking about your "former life") assume that you are dead, just like them. Just nod and smile and continue on, as they're really not ready to hear the whole Ages End mess that has adventurers running amok in their afterlife. :)
