October 23, 2025 - Sorry

I am sorry for the long radio silence. While the sites are up, I know not everything is behaving as it should. In a perfect world, Ngreth would have been able to get everything fixed and behaving pretty quickly, and I would be back to posting event previews and more on the EQ2 side of things. The world is far from perfect, and 2025 keeps kicking us while we are down. There has been lots of real-life chaos going on, starting with having to had move my (hopefully) final surgery to deal with some post-cancer complications forward three months - making me in recovery at the start of expansion beta. Family injuries and illnesses, an ill computer, death in the family, and much more are also in the mix for our families, and we are just running on fumes. The sites are important to us, but we just have nothing more in our energy tanks right now.

I am recovering from the surgery, and will be back to work in about a week and a half, but my energy levels will be at a new low due to everything. With that in mind, I will NOT be doing a 24-hour gaming marathon for Extra Life day on November 8. I will be streaming a bit on Friday, Saturday and Sunday of that weekend, plus doing some small Twitch stream before then to make sure I got all my streaming settings correct on the new PC. I will not push hard, though, as there would be unhappy irony in stressing my own health while trying to raise money for sick kids.

Every year I see one or more people trolling on the forums, trying to turn the perspective on the Extra Life charity into some sinister scam. It isn't. Extra Life is a gamer-led fundraising arm of the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH). It is a valid charity and can be claimed as a charitable donation on U.S. income taxes. Many employers have a matching gifts program for it as well. None of the money goes to those doing the fundraising. Instead it is funneled to designated CMNH. In my case, it is earmarked for Radys Children's Hospital in LaJolla, CA. I have been raising funds for them via this charity for years, and hope to continue to support it in every way that my health will allow for many years to come. ~Mum

September 09, 2025 - Introducing the Community Token System

This was announced today:

We are rolling out a brand-new Community Token system so we can hold events in the Forums, Discord, Social Media Platforms, and, yes, in the game too! Why? You might be asking yourself. Well, let us explain! 

We want to give you a choice about what you get for your prize in participating in our events! With this new system, you will get up to 3 tokens* at a time to spend at an in-game NPC located in Qeynos Harbor and Freeport. This ogre, named Ogor the Happy, wants terribly to be an adventurer. Alas he cannot, so he needs you to get him some Norrathian Fables and bring them to him. In turn, he will let you choose from a plethora of items he happens to have sitting around. From time to time, he will even get some items added for you to choose from. 

*Depending on the difficulty level of the event, participants will earn one, two, or three tokens for the event. Spend them immediately or hold onto them until you have what you need for that super special prize you’ve been eyeing. 

These tokens will be available for events the community team runs on socials, forums, and Discord. Winners of the events on social media, forums, or Discord will receive a code from the community team to use on the website and will then receive their token(s) in-game. The guides will also be giving them out as well for their events by using their in-game prize system. 

We certainly hope you all enjoy this new system as much as we have in coming up with the concept and fun storyline. We look forward to many fun events to be had! Keep your eyes peeled for our first Community Token event!

Signs of life! The sites are (partly) recovered from their dirtnap, and Mum is (partly) recovered from her surgery. More time is needed for both, and we thank you for your patience and support as we continue to recover.

The organizers for the city festival for Qeynos slept in this morning, resulting in a late start for the festival. As an apology, they are staying an extra day, so the Qeynos City Festival for April will run until the end of April 8, 2025.

Well, I finished the article before the event started, at least. Without further ado, I present you with the Frostfell 2024 preview. The event will launch with the patch on Dec. 3 due to a few bits and bobs (like the giant Frostfell trees in Qeynos and Freeport) needing a patch in order to activate.

December 01, 2024 - Scars of Destruction Overview

I am still low energy and recovering, so I do not have much for you yet. However, Fading has done a lovely overview of the expansion in general to tide you over until I can stream the crafting line (maybe later today, maybe tomorrow) and put together a small Frostfell preview.

November 20, 2024 - Scars of Destruction!

Expansion launch day has arrived! I have been so insanely busy with work and real life that I have had next-to-no time to work on an expansion preview this year. I DO have a few things for you, just not as massive a writeup as usual due to the distractions of medical mayhem on top of work.

First is an unscheduled twitch stream from last night that shows off carpenter furniture, tradeskill researcher furniture, the new house, and a bit of Frostfell goodies.

The wonderful Whilhelmina from the French-language EQ2 Artisans is a goddess among women. I am just throwing that out there. I wrote the frissen frassen quests, and didn't have enough energy left to actually turn that into a coherent walkthrough. She wrote not only a French language version of the quest for her own site, but then translated the walk-through, threw it into a file for me, dropped all the images on me, etc. While it still took time to format it to work with the unfriendly site requirements, it took WAY less time than it would to write the article from scratch, and ensured you would have a signature quest walk-through today. Merci beaucoup, Whilhelmina!!

Last is a gallery of the Scars of Destruction Carpenter furniture. This is very much in-progress, and I may/may not be able to finish it before I leave for my surgery today. I am linking it in and continuing to work on it until the last moment. If you see 24 mastercrafted images, then I finished before I left. Otherwise, I'll leave a note saying that the rest are pending in a few days once I am back home and feeling up to sitting at the computer for a while.

November 08, 2024 - Happy Anniversary and More!

EverQuest II turns 20 years old in a few hours, and along with that date comes the release of another annual Heroes' Festival Celebration.

Additionally, the launch date for the Scars of Destruction expansion has been announced as November 20, so you now have just under 2 weeks to participate in the beta if you wish to earn the beta testing rewards.

November 05, 2024 - Extra Life Bonus Week is Here!

Phew! What a weekend! I was one of many who did a 24-hour game marathon Saturday/Sunday for charity. We raised a lot of money, and a lot of awareness for the Children's Miracle Network via the Extra Life campaign. It was utterly exhausting, but a lot of fun.

We were close enough to the $125,000 fundraising goal with Extra Life that the decision has been made to unlock the bonuses for that fundraising tier. Enjoy extra xp, extra rare drop chances, extra loot in the current expansion zones, and double currency rewards. You can read the specifics here.

October 11, 2024 - NoTD and Other News

First off, at midnight Pacific, Nights of the Dead 2024 will begin on all servers other than Anashti Sul. I apologize for leaving this preview until the very last moment, but life has been chaotic.

It is not just me trying to get the tradeskill line into place, which is chaos enough, but also that nasty thing called Real Life. I will not go into details of the medical mess here, but I am likely to be unavailable a lot for several months, starting at the end of this month. Go gently on me, please.

Due to all the chaos, I may not be available for Extra Life Game Day streaming as I had hoped. I am still raising money for Extra Life this year, and donating via my fundraising page does get you various EQ and EQ2 claim codes based on how much you donate, but I might not be able to stream to do that extra little bit of fundraising for sick kids. To those who have donated, or do donate before the end of the year, thank you. This nonprofit charity is one I strongly support. ~Mum

October 08, 2024 - The Year of Darkpaw Crafter Fix

From the patch notes today:

Corrected an issue that would prevent The Year of Darkpaw Crafter from triggering some of its component events. Players that have already qualified for those events will find their achievement fixed upon logging in or zoning.

If you find that the master achievement is still not recording an earned achievement properly, please post in the forums, but people "should" be fixed now. Trust me, you don't want to know how much I have cursed our achievement system because of this. :D

October 01, 2024 - Still Here

Yes, I am still here, just so very swamped with RL stuff and work that I am way behind on touching the websites. I will have a Nights of the Dead preview up at some point this week, but I have been really low-energy, and what energy I have has been going towards my own health, and dealing with expansion stuff at work. Speaking of expansions, it went up for pre-order today, and beta opens at noon. Enjoy this tiny promotional preview while I shamble back to work:
