These quests require that you own the Destiny of Velious expansion, and be a level 85+ crafter.
These quests grant you four class-specific recipe books, and also award you with a cloak that, when worn, prevents you from being forced out of the sky whenever the dragon does a fly-by.
Before you dive right into this quest series, you may want to consider picking up a portable woodworking table and a portable engraved desk. You will also need 15 rhenium ore, 6 swamp ash lumber, 15 matoppie roots, 12 thick bear pelt, 5 effulgent kindling, 9 effulgent coal, 9 effulgent filament, and 14 effulgent sandpaper throughout the course of this quest series.
To reach the Withered Lands, head to the Thurgadin docks in Great Divide and
head for the northeasternmost branching of the docks. (There is also a quest
NPC beside the griffon, that high-level adventurers will wish to talk to before traveling.) Hail the New Combine Flightmaster, and head for the Withered Lands.
Preserving the Flank
When you land, head diagonally to your left (south) and enter the cave. At
the back of that cave, safely hiding from the dragon, is the crafting quest
starter, a rather crabby halfling by the name of Porto.
|
You say, "Hail, Porto Bunglefoot"
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "Excellent, another thankless mouth to feed!
I hope you like the taste of dirt and bugs that's going to be all that we
have left after this mammoth meat spoils."
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "I can feed myself, thank you. It looks like
you're the one that needs help here."
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "Help? A camp this large and only one cook.
Why would I need help?"
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "Just let me know how I can assist. I know my
way around a crafting table."
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "Well...you can start by smoking and salting
the remaining barrels of mammoth meat. That should keep the camp fed for a
week more. If you can handle this, I may have more work for you."
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "Okay. I'll get to it."
He'll hand you 5 barrels of mammoth meat, 10 high quality salt, and the How
To: Cure Mammoth Meat recipe scroll. Scribe the scroll, then use the stove that
Portho is standing in front of to do 5 combines of cured mammoth meat. Return
to Porto for tradeskill xp, 30-ish gold, AA, and your Grandmaster ____'s Basic Compendium, Volume 1 recipe book. He's even willing to be a bit less crabby, now that he knows you're there
to help, not demand he fix you a sammich!
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "Ah, you have returned. Have you finished curing the mammoth meat?"
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "Yes, here are the cured barrels of meat."
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "You did a fantastic curing job on that mammoth
chow. I seem to have underestimated you."
Rawr.
Replacement Supplies
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "What comes now?"
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "There's an overly obvious task that needs to be taken care of or we're going to get pushed right out of this forest. I seem to be the only one to notice it, and no one wants to listen to a lowly chef. Be quiet and make me a sandwich' they say. Harrumph!"
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "What needs to be done?"
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "We need more barricades! Reinforced supply crates! Tents that can actually withstand the torrential rain instead of shredding like papyrus! Things that will keep our supplies, and us, safe."
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "Makes sense to me. I assume you want me to handle making these things."
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "Yes! I'll be stuck here...making sandwiches with the mammoth meat you cured for me. There's no time for me to make supplemental supplies with this army expecting me to feed them."
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "I'll handle it. Let me know how you want these supplies made."
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "Here are the recipes that I scratched up in my spare time. The materials we brought with us are getting destroyed by this harsh climate - you will need to harvest or obtain stronger components from the forest. Return to me once you have created the new supplies."
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "I will return."
You'll receive a recipe scroll (Camp Supplies, Revision II), which contains
the recipes for Bear Hide Tent, Rhenium Barricade and Swamp Ash Storage Crate. You will need to make 3 of each item, which means you will need: 12 rhenium ore, 6 swamp ash lumber, 15 matoppie roots, 12 thick bear pelt, 9 effulgent coal, 9 effulgent filament, and 9 effulgent sandpaper. (Farvra Olenthie should be on the stage nearby to sell you the fuel, and the resources are harvested in-zone.)
You say, "Hail, Porto Bunglefoot"
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "The unappreciated master graces me once
more with their presence. Do you have the supplies I asked for?"
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "Yes. Here you go!"
You receive tradeskill xp, 35-ish gold, AA, and Grandmaster ____'s Advanced Compendium, Volume 1 recipe book
A Mystery Satyr
Porto Bunglefoot:Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "Woah! These are...excellent quality! Professional! Stupendous! Fantastic job! I have one final task for you, if you're up for it..."
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "Sure, what is it?"
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "I was ambushed by a satyr when I was out
harvesting yesterday! I thought I was a goner for sure!"
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "I see you're still in one piece. What happened?"
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "I had my trusty skinning knife ready
I wasn't going to go down without a fight! But this satyr was different...he didn't have crazy eyes like the ones that have been attacking the camp."
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "Go on."
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "He started babbling on and on about how he needed our help! Before I could get in a word edgewise and find out what the real problem was, we heard a raptor shriek much closer than I would have liked. I got out of there! I'm not a coward, but I don't plan on being raptor food!"
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "So what do you want me to do again?"
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "I want you to go find out what the satyr
wants, of course! I think he said his name was 'Phaerus' or something like
that. I figure someone as cunning as you can handle the dangers of the forest better than I...or at least you can avoid them."
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "Okay. Let me know where you met this satyr
and I'll see what I can find out."
Porto Bunglefoot says to you, "Go and find the satyr. Find out what he wants!"
You say to Porto Bunglefoot, "I will do so."
Now comes the time when you have a bit of travel to do. If you've been to the area before, you can hop on one of the nearbye combine mounts (outside the New Combine barricade and to the left). If you haven't explored yet, pull out your flying mount, a safefall cloak, and start traveling. If you're especially squishy, I recommend moving a bit up one of the zone walls and travel that way, making sure you discover each sanctuary along the way (the green areas on the map). They are revive points and mount stops, so it is a "good thing" to
know where they are. (They also provide some very limited aggro-free harvesting spots.)

If you fly without some sort of safe fall, and have not done the adventuring
quests that let you "hide" the dragon, be very wary any time it rains. It means the dragon is nearby, and you will be forced out of the sky with a message of "the skies are not safe" and an anti-flight debuff. You're a couple quests from getting the crafter cloak that protects you from that feature.
Make your way to the highest part of the Sanctuary of Tears on the western
side of the zone, and you will find Phaerus under a tent at roughly -47.51,
-625.11, -616.43.
Hail him to receive 35-ish gold, crafting xp, and AAxp
Clearing the Brush
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "Eeep! Wait...you're not trying to
attack me like the other adventurers. What do you want?"
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "I was about to ask you the same thing!"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "I'm seeking skilled outsiders that can help cleanse the forest! We've already lost too many to the corruption to clean it up ourselves. Could you be the one I am looking for?"
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Woah, slow down. That all depends on what's in it for me."
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "All I need from you is some pre-ritual
preparation. In return, I will pass along much of our tribal knowledge to
you. It may not sound like much, but I think you will find it very useful."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Okay, where do I start?"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "The first thing we need you to do is clear out some of the tainted brush around the ritual site. The ritual area is all around the stele here. Bring me the wood that you collect we'll need it for the next step."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Got it. I shall return."
The shrubs are in that area, and pretty easy to spot, thanks to the bright
green glow around them. That's quite some impressive taint! Collect 5 of them
and return to Phaerus.
You say, "Hail, Phaerus Thunderhorn"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "You have returned. Do you have the tainted shrubbery?"
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Yes, here you go."
You will receive tradeskill xp, AAxp, and 34-ish gold.
A Timeless Instrument
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "Great, great! Now for the next task.
Are you ready?"
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "I am ready."
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "We need some ritual daggers made from the wood that you collected earlier. A ritual is never complete without some daggers!"
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Uhh...okay. I'll make the daggers show me how you want them made."
He will give you the recipe and 5 blessed water, and you will need to combine those and 5 effulgent sandpaper on the woodworking table in order to make 5 ritual daggers.
What's the catch? The nearest woodworking table is at the other end of the
zone, in the cave where you found Porto. You can use the zone mount at the base of the ramp to the sancturay or evac - or have planned ahead based on my notes at the top of the page and brought not only the sandpaper, but a portable woodworking table with you. Bring the daggers back to Phaerus, regardless of how you accessed a table. :)
This may be acting a bit squirrely at launch. If Phaerus thinks you've lost the shrubs when you go to hand in the ritual daggers, you may need to hail him 3-4 times before he gets a !clue and accepts the quest hand-in.
You say, "Hail, Phaerus Thunderhorn"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "You have returned! Do you have the daggers?"
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Yes. Here they are."
You will receive tradeskill xp, AAxp, 35-ish gold and Grandmaster ____'s Basic Compendium, Volume 2 recipe book
Totemic Reinforcement
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "These came out excellent! A new problem just came up, if you have time to help again."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "What's that?"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "Our old ritual totems have been turned into pulp by the forest grubs! It looks like the wood they were made out of wasn't properly treated."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "So you want me to try to repair the statues?"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "No, at this point they will need to be completely replaced - this time we will use stone instead of wood. Given your quick work with the daggers, I assume this will be easy for you."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "We'll see. Give me the materials and
instructions and I'll get to work."
You'll be handed 4 blessed water, 8 slabs of granite, and the scroll "Totemic Mastercrafting and You", scribe it then use an engraving desk to make the four totems. (As with the previous quest, if you didn't bring a portable engraving desk with you, the nearest desk is at the other end of the zone in the cave with Porto.
Return to Phaerus with the completed totems.
You say, "Hail, Phaerus Thunderhorn"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "Hello! Do you have the totems made already?"
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Yep! Here they are."
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "That was quick! You're exceeding my expectations for outsiders."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "What comes now?"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "I can sense a bond between you and the totems you made earlier I think you should be the one to place them around the ritual site."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "I agreed to help you prepare for the ritual, this sounds too much like taking part in it."
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "No, this is just completing the preparations. Without the totems to properly ward the ground while more satyrs arrive, the area will become corrupted and overgrown. We need the ritual area pure."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Okay. Show me where to place them."
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "I've marked the locations on your map. Return to me when you've completed this final task I'll have a gift ready for you."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "I will be back later."
The ritual site is nearby, at -6.25, -632.37, -718.61.
Click on each of the 4 spots as they glow to place the totems. They're actually quite pretty (and you'll find 4 animated versions of the totems are in the new advanced carpenter books, if you find they're growing on you)! This is also acting oddly at launch for some people. If too many folks in your instance of the zone have been placing totems recently, you might need to wait a few minutes for the click spots to activate for you. Be patient and/or hop versions of the instance to a less populated one.

You say, "Hail, Phaerus Thunderhorn"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "Have you placed the totems yet?"
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "They are in place and ready."
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "Most stupendous! Since we lost our prime craftsman to the corruption, the others lost faith in this becoming a reality. This would not have been possible without you! Take this cloak - you may find it useful. It should allow you to travel freely in these hostile skies."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "Thanks!"
Phaerus Thunderhorn says to you, "Thank you for your help with the ritual preparations. May Tunare watch over you."
You say to Phaerus Thunderhorn, "It was no problem. Farewell."
You receive tradeskill xp, AAxp, 31-ish gold, Grandmaster ____'s Advanced Compendium, Volume 21 recipe book, and the Shroud of Hidden Harvests.

Note that the cloak must be actually equipped in order to prevent you from receiving the temporary anti-fly debuff in Withered Lands every time the dragon is flying by.
