EverQuest II's 19th expansion, the Renewal of Ro (RoR), releases at noon Pacific on November 30, 2022. While I can no longer post "previews" of expansions, I will be fleshing out this information in chunks over the first few days of expansion release.
Travel in RoR and You
Obviously, one of the first things that players need to know, is how to get to the new content, and how to get around once you are there. (Level 125 crafters, note that while I am giving you the information on how to reach the expansion zones, you will want to wait on traveling to the new zones until you have picked up your crafting quest from Jaranna in the Village of Shin.)
Travel to the first zone, the Raj'Dur Plateaus, is from a flying carpet located in Qeynos, Freeport, Butcherblock Mountains and the Sinking Sands. The carpet in Qeynos is in Qeynos Harbor, in the dock area. The carpet from Freeport is in East Freeport. The carpet in the Butcherblock Mountains is on the docks. The carpet in the Sinking Sands is available from the carpet keepers as an additional travel location in the bottom left of the Sinking Sands travel map.
There are three overland zones: the Raj'Dur Plateaus (zone in is in the Hopewell Harbor area), the Takish Badlands, and the Sandstone Delta. Safe travel from Hopewell Harbor to the Takish Badlands is available to all via a camel located at /way 176, -59, 451 (click on the saddle stand beside the camel.) This slow camel will deliver you safely to the Goldami Reservoir Camp in the Raj'Dur Plateaus, where you will find a carpet that allows travel between Raj'Dur Plateaus and the Takish Badlands.

Upon completion of the fourth quest in the tradeskill signature line, "Researchers of Ro: Takish Time" you will be given a single Call of the Delta potion and a warning to buy more when you land. This is very IMPORTANT! (Which, of course, means that many will skim right by the information in the quest dialog AND will ignore this warning as well!) The port potions can only be obtained from Tarkin, Associate Trader, in the Sandstone Delta. (They also are only available once you have completed the first four quests of the tradeskill signature line.) If you miss the warning or simply forget to buy more potions when there and you are a "squishy" then it is recommended that you find someone able and willing to give you a Call of the Veteran, Call of the Hero, or similar, or have someone in your guild drop down a rally banner next to Tarkin. The carpet from the Takish Badlands leading to the Sandstone Delta is not close to the crafting area, and if you're squishy, you WILL squish!
Those of you reading this, your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to remind those who did not pay attention to the quest dialog for one reason or another of their various ways of getting around being "stranded" because they don't have their potion anymore, to save them from being bitten by a grumpy halfling. :D
Tradeskill Details
The Signature Line - Researchers of Ro
As mentioned above, the tradeskill signature line is granted by Jaranna in the Village of Shin. You need to be level 125 in your crafting profession to obtain the quest. You will receive email from Jaranna about it, though the email is not needed in order to obtain the quest.
While there are things that have been done to smooth things out, such as the safe travel options listed above, you, the crafter, will be at the forefront of the new explorers to this land, actually setting up the crafting and research areas for later use. As such, there may be a bit less hand-holding than you have seen in the past. You ARE level 125 crafters, after all, and that means you are expected to know how to dodge mobs when harvesting, read quest instructions carefully so you don't craft/do things out of order, open your quest journal up when the quest helper isn't enough information, and so on.
Completion of the Researchers of Ro 5-quest series will:
- Grant you one piece of the desert crafting equipment that you "made" during the questline
- Unlock the ability to buy your three class-specific Plateaus recipe books containing your handcrafted recipes from a guild recipe vendor. This vendor will also sell you the three Plateaus Crafter's books that contain basic mount gear recipes.
- Unlock the ability to perform missions with the three public researchers that take the place of the three main quest NPCs that you work with out in the expansion zones (Bairam, Hamdi, Shahin).
- Unlock the ability to purchase the rest of the Desert crafting equipment from the vendors located next to each researcher.
Public Researchers
The public researchers are going to be your main source of tradeskill ... stuff. Recipes that unlock on the researchers, recipes that drop in the mission reward bags, crafting nails in the reward bags, and so on. It will also be how you unlock flight in the new expansion, after the completion of 15 public researcher missions.
While that may seem like a large number of missions, they are not only short, but you can work on three at a time -- one from each researcher. These missions are on a 3-hour mission timer. This means that it is NOT 3 hours from completion before you can pick up the next quests, but it is dependent on the mission timer that rolls over every 3 hours. Check your journal's Mission Timers tab, and filter by the name "Researchers" to shorten the list and make it easier to find the missions.
Mission currency will then be used to purchase the various recipes, mount patterns and house items that will appear on the vendor as each item completes the research timer.
More To Come!
I really, truly cannot "spoil" additional information until players have a chance to poke at things themselves. It is a delicate line between my site presence, and my professional presence, and I will tread carefully.
I will be adding in a ton of eye-candy as time goes on. (I have almost 150 screenshots to post, mostly of house items!) I will also be adding in a signature quest walk-through and so on, but I have to pace myself. Work comes first, then sleep, then the site. :D
Screenshots!
Players have completed the tradeskill line already and discovered the handcrafted carpenter books, so here's the first round of goodness!
