October 23, 2019 - Panda Problems

Issues with the Days of Summer (aka Panda Quests) flagging will be fixed with the patch this coming Tuesday. Until then, you may not be able to shop with alts, you may or may not be able to buy the week 9 stuff even on the one who finished the week 9 quest, etc. Hang on until Tuesday, and it should get sorted out.

October 22, 2019 - Days of Summer, Patch Time

The patch is running long today due to some network issues, there is no ETA at this time. Thankfully, the Test server got their patch yesterday, so I was able to verify Days of Summer locations for you for week 9. All weeks of this event are now unlocked and as in past years, the questgiver and the NPC will be around year-round, so folks can quest at their own pace.

Our message boards are down until further notice (it may be hours, it likely will be days). Since we do not use the forums much at all these days (unlike the ones for EQ), it is not much of a hardship on the EQ2 side of things. I may just decide to kill the EQ2 ones gracefully once they are back up, and just keep the calendar feature going.

October 17, 2019 - Update on Custom UIs

From Dreamweaver:

Wanted to update everyone with the timeline for disabling the Custom UI(s). We will be turning them off with the next patch on Tuesday (10/22), and they will be off for the following week as we spend that time testing. Either Friday (10/25) or Monday (10/28) before the patch on Tuesday (10/29) we will let you all know if that timeline needs to be extended further. Since we understand that many players will be effected by this and it is important to us that gameplay continues as normal as possible while this occurs for testing purposes we’ve made the below changes that will take effect around the same time as the UI are disabled:
We will be awarding everyone (1) free lockout reset when the change goes active. This is a (1) use consumable that will reset all of your current lockout timers and will only be usable while this test is active. Keep in mind if you wish to enter a previously saved zone all members of your group or raid must have it reset in order to get a new zone. This short term change synergizes with the gear up level up double loot event, allowing participating raids to receive double rewards on a daily basis while this test is running.
We will also be lowering all minimum lockouts on raid zones in Chaos Descending and Fabled Kael Drakkel to 18 hours instead of their normal 3 or 5 day lockouts.
It is important to note that once this test is completed, we will be returning the lockout timers to their original length. It is crucial that we have players in game and grouping/raiding during this time as we try to identify the cause of the lag we’ve been seeing lately. We will do our best to ensure the effect on gameplay is as minimal as possible. We appreciate your patience and your assistance!

From Mum: This means things like EQ2maps, DarqUI, ProfitUI and so on will not be available during this testing phase. (The layout editor, which is not a custom UI, should NOT be impacted, from everything I have seen.) I know it is frustrating for folks who run with custom UIs, and the lag has been frustrating as well, but your continued activity during the week or so that they have custom UIs turned off will help them figure out if one or more of them is the culprit.

October 15, 2019 - Gear Up Level Up 2019 Starts Tomorrow

Gear Up, Level Up has returned once more! Gear Up, Level Up is a time when bonuses become available throughout Norrath to help adventurers prepare for the season's upcoming expansion. This year, we've got a number of different bonuses slated that will all kick off starting next week!
Adventuring on a Live Servers, you'll earn triple Ethereal coins from 12:01 AM on October 18, 2019 until 11:59 PM PT on October 29, 2019. During this same time period, All Access Members will also earn double currency. These bonuses will stack, which means members will earn six times the Ethereal currency!
In addition to these ethereal bonuses, all players on Live Servers will also find themselves earning double Chaos Descending loot drops from 12:00 PM PT (noon) on October 15, 2019 until The end of Gear Up Level Up (Which will be revealed at a later date)! Double loot drops means the final boss in expansion dungeon zones will drop twice as much loot as usual.
Limited Time item drops can be obtained from Chaos Descending missions crates and will grant you a bonus based off of their type, such as Research Reduction, which will decrease the time remaining to research your currently researching ability. Limited Time items can only exist in your inventory until they expire, so don't forget to use them!
The first limited time item Research Reduction, will be available from 12:00 PM PT (noon) on October 15, 2019 until 12:00 PM PT (noon) on October 22, 2019 when the next bonus will begin!
Be sure to use this time wisely as you prepare for continuing adventures in Norrath and the next EverQuest II expansion!

October 09, 2019 - Third Party UI Warning and Census Update

Dreamweaver (our new Community person, for those who do not follow the official forums) just announced this on the forums and on Discord:

Thank you for your patience as we continue to investigate performance issues. We wanted to update you on Census and next steps. We will be turning Census back on this Friday as we are done looking at things related to it. In the next week or two as our next step, we will be turning off Third Party UI and looking at those.
We wanted to give you all a heads up for a few reasons, the primary one being it’s important that you continue to play and raid even without the UI so we can track the effects. We also wanted to make sure that you had enough time to get used to using the default UI before the Third Party UI are turned off, we will let you know the exact date of the Third Party UI shutoff as soon as we can.
Once again, thank you and see you in Norrath!

What does this mean for you? If you do not use custom UI packages such as DarqUI, nothing. If you DO, however, be braced for another announcement soon telling you when they will be disabled for a bit. They truly are leaving no stone unturned as they try to figure out where all the more extreme lag has been coming from lately. Let us hope they can find the culprit(s) soon!

October 08, 2019 - Wheeee!

Happy Nights of the Dead, folks! As mentioned yesterday, there are new broom mounts in the Marketplace. Since there are 4 variations, and there has been some confusion, here is a bit of clarification for you. The Infernal comes with a witch hat with purple trim, and a bat familiar. It has green broomstraw, and you can go for just the Infernal, or the Occupied Infernal if you would like a tortie cat sitting behind you as you fly. The basic Spellbound has a black cat familiar, the witch hat with orange trim and straw-colored broomstraw. All characters sit sideways on the broom, except for male frogloks, as pictured above. I have also done a video on the various packs, and a bit of flying and surfing with them.

The Days of Summer article was also updated today for Week 7.

October 08, 2019 - Nights of the Dead and Brooms?!

In a few short hours (1 minute after midnight Pacific), the Nights of the Dead game content will be released. Then, if all goes as planned, at 10 a.m. Pacific tomorrow (Tuesday, October 8), there are supposed to be flying broom mounts available on the Marketplace. Possibly even four of them (two good, two evil). No additional details are available at this time, but the numbers and the time estimate are from animator Tom Tobey when he was chatting with folks on Discord. I know there are a few folks who have been begging for a broom mount for years, so this is happy news. :D

September 17, 2019 - Another Week ...

... Another round of the Days of Summer quest series has been released. The patch today also worked on labeling the entrance to The Dualitys Vigilant Sanctum for those of us who have multiple versions of it (due largely to three different crafting quests needing it now, along with the one adventuring sig) on the door and cannot figure out which one is which.

September 10, 2019 - A Couple Updates

Week 3 of the Days of Summer 2019 is now active, and the article has been updated with rough locations (items can spawn in an area, not just an exact loc.)

The Prelude 2019 article has been updated as well. The patch today changed the harvest amounts for the sublime pulverulence needed for the Tradeskill Signature "Piercing the Darkness: Carving a Legacy". Instead of harvesting a single pulverulence per pull, you will harvest 6, 12 or 20 per pull. Thanks Kaitheel!

September 07, 2019 - A Word About

Please consider this a semi-grumpy reminder that tester-blaming is bad, k? Do not go down that rabbit hole. There can be many reasons why something goes live that should not, and coming breezing into the /test.test channel going "Whomever tested _____, I hate you" is a sure way to upset the people who sacrifice their playtime to make sure that less bugs make it to the live servers. I do not care if you decide to claim after the fact that you were joking, you are damaging the morale of an often-neglected group of players who are trying to help improve the game. It is adding negativity to their often-frustrating self-appointed tasks. Just do not.

Not everything makes it onto the Test server before it goes live, for a number of reasons (including it not being ready in time to be tested, or a desire for it not to be "spoilered" before it goes live, etc.) The reasons do not matter, really. Even when something DOES make it to Test, not everything will be caught, because there are few of us and many times many of you, and you are quite inventive at finding creative ways to bug things. :P

That is not the point, though. You can go "They should" all day long when talking about the overloaded developers, or those of us who voluntarily test stuff. You can ... but you should not.

Bugs happen, no matter how thoroughly something is tested. Pointing fingers is bad, especially if you had no hand in helping test it. Blaming, especially blaming volunteers only makes those volunteers burn out faster and give up, which then leaves less volunteers and less testing going forward.

September 05, 2019 - New Content Tomorrow!

Surprise! It is time for the expansion prelude event. Normally this has been a single adventuring quest that can be repeated until expansion launch for special event currency. This year is ... a bit different. There will be:

  • 2 level 110 adventure signature quests (permanent content!)
  • 2 level 110 tradeskill signature quests (permanent content!)
  • 3 all level adventure repeatable quests (prelude only)
  • 2 all level tradeskill repeatable quests (prelude only)
  • 1 collection (prelude only)

To make sure there is no confusion, the "prelude only" quests will only be available until the expansion launches.

This content will begin at 12:01 a.m. Pacific on September 6, and I will create an article with more details, screenshots, etc. after I have had time to poke at the tradeskill stuff. (Link in this article is to the official announcement. My article will likely come out tomorrow sometime.)
