November 25, 2016 - Kunark Ascending Dailies

From what I have seen in chat channels and on the Daybreak forums, folks are confused about the KA crafting dailies. They work exactly like the ToT dailies do, in that there is one weekly quest with a better reward that resets with the weekly mission timer at midnight Pacific Wednesday night, and seven "dailies" that you can do at your own pace (all at once, one a day, etc) and that each reset in just under seven days after you hand them in. Many of us like to do everything in one huge chunk, instead of coming back every day to do another daily, especially with large alt-armies. Still, it seems to be a hard thing for folks to wrap their minds around, and to track, and I have a rather large spreadsheet to track a lot of things for my couple dozen crafters. :O I would not wish that spreadsheet on anyone else, though, as it is an utter mess! Thankfully Shmogre has come to the rescue with a nice streamlined google document that will let you track gardening goblin, dailies, weekly (Snacky Snacks) as well as ascension scrolls if you have adventuers running amok out there as well. It handily changes color when your timer is up, too! Make a copy if you use google docs or export it to other file formats as needed. Thanks, Shmogre!

November 23, 2016 - Galloping Gargoyles!

It is getting to be that time of year again! Frostfell 2016 is already on the Test server, and while there is still plenty of time to get a preview whipped into shape, I wanted to get as much of it done and out of the way so I could take a bit of a breather without it looming over me. Not only is the eye-candy as done as a few pieces of missing art will allow, but there is also a short story that deals with the new quest from the point of view of the hapless NPC. Without further ado, I give you Frostfell 2016: Galloping Gargoyles!

November 22, 2016 - Freeport CoM House

There was a problem with the Freeport side City of Mist house (preorder item). The short version of the answer is that if you had one on the Freeport side and it disappeared on you, rebuy it from the Freeport prestige housing portal, and within a week your items will be returned to you. (It takes time to go through all those logs to be sure they get everything back to you!) If you want the longer version of the response, Caith has been posting responses in this thread on the Daybreak forums.

In other news, yes, Frostfell is now on Test. Yes, I have dropped my plans for the day, including the nap, and am working on testing things now. No, I do not have images up yet, but will sometime later for the art that is currently visible. No, I am not going to keep answering questions about FF in chat channels tonight as it is slowing me down horribly. Yes, I am feeling a bit frayed. :P

November 17, 2016 - Unscheduled Downtime

This was just posted a few minutes ago:

All servers will come down at 3 PM PT (11 PM UTC) for a brief update to address an outstanding issue. Downtime is anticipated to be approximately 1 hour.

November 16, 2016 - Patch Tomorrow

The patch tomorrow includes the following tradeskill notes:

  • The City of Mist Home Builder's Kit recipes now use common harvests from the original Kunark zones.
  • Ingredients on the recipes of the tradeskill daily missions have been rebalanced to require fewer mycelial tendrils and a more even distribution of ingredients overall.
  • If you fail to craft a healing goo brew, you can now obtain more slug slime.
I will update the shopping list for the dailies tomorrow, as well as update the page for the new building blocks with final names and an ingredient list. Hopefully the claimed merchant sales crates will be fixed tomorrow as well.

November 15, 2016 - Kunark Ascending - Dirty Jobs!

Today, any minute now, marks the release of the Kunark Ascending expansion for EverQuest II. While I had originally planned to just do the large preview, complete with quest writeups, screenshots and the like, a tiny off-the-cuff story also snuck in. In the words of Mum: Enjoy the earworm!

November 11, 2016 - Busy, Busy

With the Kunark Ascending expansion due out in a few short days (Tuesday!), I am hard at work re-checking bugs, fact-checking, and quest guide writing. With over 50 quests to document on top of everything else, plus the inevitable distractions as I stop to document some other niggly that I just remembered, it can be slow going, but serious progress has been made in the last day or so. I likely will not be doing another front page update until expansion day, so you will want to keep a close eye on the Kunark Ascending Crafting and Housing Preview for anything crafting and housing related in the new expansion. The bottom of that page will contain edit notes, so you can more easily see when something has been added, changed, and so on. In addition to the in-progress quest writeups, the biggest thing still to come is individual screenshots of all 93(!!) new carpenter items that may not happen until Sunday or Monday.

November 07, 2016 - Testing a Squishy

I know some of you out there have low level adventurers that are level 100 crafters, so I did a bit of testing over the weekend with the new expansion and a fresh level 1 character in newbie gear. If you are curious as to the death count and the reasons why she died, you can read more here. The TLDR version of it is that the deaths were avoidable and it is feasible to do this questline on an extremely squishy baby adventurer.

November 03, 2016 - Festival Quest Tracker

The Heroes' Festival is now live, and Casdoe of Maj Dul has come through with another quest tracker. Hopefully it will help you keep track of alts that are trying to finish the repeatables in order to obtain the new mount. Enjoy! (And thanks again, Casdoe!)

November 03, 2016 - More Eye Candy

Yep, two updates in one day, and because of how the site handles it, the newer update will show below the older one. Ah well, it is what it is ...

... and what it is happens to be lovely! I have started a master page for all of the Kunark Ascending crafting quests, and quest writeups will start trickling in over the next few days. In the meantime I am happy to present you with a bit of eye-candy, in the form of the new epic mastery cloaks. You can click the link above to see a few more details.

October 31, 2016 - A Quick Warning

I will be updating the Kunark Ascending Crafting & Housing Preview later today (once I am done with the plumbers ... again), but wanted to drop a quick note in the interim. Players who wish to complete the new tradeskill signature line that will be released in the expansion on November 15 should note that they once again WILL need to complete the Earring of the Solstice before they can complete the questline.

October 30, 2016 - Eye-Candy for Heroes

I will be chipping away at the expansion stuff some more this weekend, but meanwhile, I have a quick little bit of eye-candy for the 2016 Heroes' Festival. Enjoy!

October 25, 2016 - Have I Got a Story for You!

Or two, or three, or something like that!

At long last, I have taken all the little stories that have been scattered across the site, and have revamped what used to be the "Humor" section, turning it into a multi-MMORPG story section. Linked there, you will find over 50 stories from EQ2, including the brand-new Responsible Pranking, Mum-Style. You will also find three old stories from my EQ days, the Komics that Kaisha created for us several years ago, and a section for some DC Universe Online stories that I have been writing, including the 6-part (and still growing) tale of the Volt Sisters. As more gets Added to any of these sections, I will make sure to call it out here, and on the Stories main page for those who wish to keep up with my varied scribblings.

October 15, 2016 - For the Impatient :)

Kunark Ascending has not yet been in beta a full week, but I know some people are already eager for details. Things tend to change and evolve a lot through the beta period, so a lot of the "meat" will be waiting until later in the testing phase. However, I have a couple articles with eye-candy already linked into the master preview article, so I am putting up the link to the preview for you now.

October 06, 2016 - NoTD

Perhaps there was some sort of zombie uprising to deal with along the way? We are not quite sure yet if it was that or some sort of a.m./p.m. confusion that has delayed the arrival of the Nights of the Dead celebrants, but hopefully we will know more soon. My current bet is for 30 seconds after my acupuncturist arrives. {grin}

UPDATE: Annnnndd, the event is now live. Hopefully those zombies are not why my acupuncturist is also late. :O

UPDATE #2: According to Kaitheel, Nights of the Dead will run an extra day to make up for the release time snafu.

October 04, 2016 - Game Cards and NoTD

If you are the sort that likes to buy physical Daybreak game cards as opposed to making online purchases for Daybreak cash or membership, you will need to buy them soon, as they are going to stop selling them. More information can be found here.

Also, a quick reminder that Nights of the Dead starts in less than 36 hours from the time that I made this post. Wheeeeeeee!

Lastly, there is a livestream tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 10 a.m. Pacific regarding the expansion. More information can be found here.

September 21, 2016 - Graphics Glitch Followup

Fall hit some trees in game really hard. So hard that they lost all their leaves overnight. Fear not, you will not have naked trees for long! They have found the underlying cause of all the graphic glitches since the patch yesterday, and are working on getting a fix out to us. Official post here. Once the fix is in place, I will add the final NoTD crafted pic to the NoTD preview.

September 20, 2016 - Graphics Glitch

There is a graphics display issue hitting many folks on both Test and Live. The worst hit are those who are unable to even see their characters, which prevents them from playing. Also reported (and personally experienced), however, are issues with naked character models, leafless trees, monster models without their shells/armor, and so on. As soon as there has been some Dev response to the forum posts about it, and a possible ETA, I will update this post.

UPDATE: They are aware of the problem and working on it. There is no ETA at this time. Meanwhile, Nights of the Dead 2016 is on the Test server. While I do not yet have the writeup fleshed out, the NoTD eye candy is now available for your viewing pleasure.

September 01, 2016 - Expansion Tidbits!

If you have not already seen it, there has been a brief announcement about the next EQ2 expansion, as well as other fall items. In addition, this is a bonus xp (adventure, tradeskill, AA) weekend for all players, as well as a member-only marketplace sale. Enjoy!

August 22, 2016 - GU101!

At the time of this posting, Game Update 101 releases in a few hours. (7 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday.) The full patch notes can be found here.

I would like to go into a bit of detail about this one line:

You can now remove your own access from another character’s house.
Basically, this is for people who have gone to their guild housing portal in the past and been hit with what seems to be a mile-long access list for various friends, acquaintances and what have you that have added you to visitor, friend or trustee access in their home. Some of them may not even play anymore, which means you cannot just ask them to remove you when your need for access is done. Below are the various methods in which you will be able to remove your access from their home. (I personally recommend, if the list is a long one, to take notes on names and locations in advance.)
  1. Head to the home from the guild housing portal and remove your access from the housing panel inside their home. This can be a pain if you have to pay their rent first, but is a good alternative if you are a low-level squishie and the home is the city of the opposing faction. However, it also means a lot of running in circles, so if you are NOT squishy, you will want that list I just recommended.
  2. Head to the outside door to the home - this is really recommended, if, for example, several homes that you want to remove your access to are prestige homes in Qeynos or Freeport. For this example, let us say there are 10 folks in Qeynos prestige housing that gave me access to their homes, and one at 4 Bayle Court in South Qeynos. Scamper up to the door of 4 Bayle, right-click the door and select visit. Find the correct name on the list, click access, find the "Remove access" button on the window that pops up. Boom, done. Scamper to the Qeynos prestige housing portal. Select visit for the housing type for the first home on my list, find the right name, click to visit, remove access. Boom. Rinse and repeat.
You will still need to do several steps per home, but it will save a ton of time and a ton of zoning, if you have several homes to remove in the same city.
