This quest guide was written by Whilhemina of the French-language EQ2 Artisans site.
November 20, 2024 sees the release of EverQuest II's latest expansion, Scars of Destruction. It adds two new zones, taking you to the remaining archipelago on the Odus coast and to Western Wastes.
Important note: the crafting timeline requires you to have completed the previous expansion, Ballads of Zimara.
The reason for this is that the W.H.O.O. used there is also used in SoD, so logic dictates that you should already have used this item.
Needless to say, Erud's Crossing isn't the happiest place on earth...

Sodden Archipelago quests
NPC : Ameela Ziad (Sodden Archipelago, 30, 6, 353 )
Quest: Stealthy supplies: W.H.A.T.? (reward: Crafter's Makeshift Shield, Status coin +75 000)
A letter titled "Need for a Skilled Crafter" from the Open Hand will warn you that strange things are happening on what was the ancient Odus coast before it moved to Ultera, and that your skills are needed. Use a bell to reach Sodden Archipelago.
Talk to Ameela Ziad, in the house opposite the docks (30, 6, 353). She's delighted that you're the artisan she's been waiting for, as adventurers are causing trouble. The locals are at the mercy of the Blackhook orcs, who once possessed Tarinax's soul, which someone is trying to recover. This soul would make it possible to reach Western Wastes, that are not as destroyed as everyone thought, and could contain dragon bodies and artifacts.
Your first mission will be to develop a W.H.A.T. (Wonderful Harvesting and Traveling Object), based on the Hooluks' W.H.O.O..
- Find a local rock sample on the coast to the left of the port (-56, 4, 434 )
- Process the sample using the recipe Processed Archipelago Sample (1 Archipelago Sample, 1 aerated mineral water, 5 zimaran coal)
- Try making your first W.H.A.T. using the W.H.A.T. Prototype recipe (1 Processed archipelago sample, 1 W.H.A.T. prototype notes, 5 zimaran coal)
- Go back and talk to Ameela.
This is just a first attempt to see if the recipe works in the region. To test it, you'll have to go to an old kappa hut (humanoid creatures with turtle shells) that the locals don't want to talk about.
- Use the hand in your inventory, exit, turn left and walk along the coast to find the hut (88, 5, 312 )... The villager Ismara will throw you out with a broom. It seems they're using the hut as a warehouse. Warning: this W.H.A.T. is an illusion, not a possession. If you're on a mount or masking illusions, you won't see it.
- Go back and tell Ameela that a big, shiny, blue hand isn't to the taste of the villagers!
NPC : Ameela Ziad (Sodden Archipelago, 30, 6, 353 )
Quest: Stealthy Supplies: Meet and Greet (reward: Crafter's Makeshift Scissors, Crafter's Makeshift Knitting Needle, Status coin +75 000)
While Ameela works on making your magic hand a little less flashy, she sends you off to find out what the villagers might need. It seems Ismara needs knitting needles, so you could make her some.
- Buy a whittling knife from Kassa.
-
- Make knitting needles (1 straight sticks, 1 Whittling knife, 5 zimaran coal)
|
- Talk to the villagers
- Polonia (20, 5, 373 ) is having trouble feeding all these adventurers. You could help her gather resources further afield and prepare meals.
- Garron (-31, 5, 358 ) is in desperate need of strong gloves as he's putting holes in his own.
- Grimar (-30, 5, 370 ) isn't interested... until you mention your hand. Could it find a bored teenager who's wandered off into kappa-infested areas? It seems there's already been one tragic disappearance.
- Zolea (-59, 9, 373 ) is sorely lacking in plates and woven baskets, especially as there are no more reeds growing around here.
- Barsten (-76, 6, 363 ) is repairing the docks, which are getting eroded by salt, and could do with some resources.
- Dunstad (-75, 6, 335 ) needs clamming forks.
- Ismara (88, 55, 307 ) didn't need knitting needles at all, but NETTING needles! Perhaps she'll use them as hairpins. In any case, she accepts your apologies.
- Go back to Ameela.
She's found a way to adjust the W.H.A.T. to take account of the Ulteran magic saturating the area. You'll need to add a sample of plant and water to the recipe.
- Gather a magic-infused plant (80, 8, 267 )
- Gather magic-infused water (47, 4, 297 )
- Craft the W.H.A.T. v1 (1 W.H.A.T. prototype, 1 Magic-infused waters, 1 Magic-riddled plant, 5 zimaran coal)
- Go back to Ameela.
You'll need Wilfric's blessing to continue your work. To do so, you'll need to gain the villagers' trust.
Complete their repeatable quests until you obtain 20,000 Port Woe faction points. If you're also doing the adventure quests, as the faction is shared, you can skip these quests altogether. Each quest is repeatable 3 times, except for the Grimar quest, which is not repeatable.
To use the hand, use it from your inventory, then click on possess.
- Once you've reached 20,000 Port Woe faction, talk to Wilfric (-90, 9, 343 ).
He'll tell you he's heard about you. You've shown that not all people from the mainland are bad. In gratitude, he'll hide your presence from the Blackhooks.
He invites you to return to Ameela.

You've been volunteered for a new mission, which is currently being prepared. Once there, you'll need to upgrade your W.H.A.T. to make it work. To do this, you'll need a magic tuning fork which, once harmonized with a rock, will give you the new recipe.

This quest requires 50,000 Port Woe faction.
As before, you can do 3 repeatable quests of each, or build up your faction through adventuring, as you wish.

It turns out that you're hunting Lucan D'Lere to prevent him from getting his hands on the draconic artifacts in Western Wastes. This area was masked by a magical shield created by Veeshan's brood, but he has found a way through it.
The great turtle Lodizal has also found a way through it and will transport the adventurers. She has left Raffik a totem pole to protect your boat.

| |
NPC : Mesmer Gearloose (Western Wastes, 70, 7, 642 )
Quest: Stealthy Supplies: Clockwork Creations(reward: Crafter's Makeshift Dough Flipper, Status coin +75 000)
The Sovereign has stolen his Magika Machina Magnifica, into which he has poured all his heart and soul (!!!) and which is now being used in the dragon necropolis. If you're able to follow instructions, even if you don't understand them (he's not ashamed!), you can help him create disruptive mechanisms to stop his machine. You'll need 3 in case they don't work, given your skills!
One ingredient will ask you to go and see a mermaid "somewhere." You wouldn't want him to help you on top of everything!

You'll need to find a mermaid "far to the north-west" and complete her quest.
Warning: You can't use the W.H.A.T. as you'll need to talk to her.
Take resources and portable crafting tables (or use leaderboards to craft elsewhere) so you don't have to make the trip twice:
- craftsman: stove and keg + 1 mountain blueberries
- outfitter: sewing table + 1 ulthork hide
- scholar: work bench + 1 porphyry stone
Drive along the coast until you reach an obelisk on the coast (585, 6, 141 ).
Go straight across, aiming for the gully to the right of the straight obelisk on the other side (299, 5, -172 )
Go up the gully to the beautiful, shining mermaid (146, 9, -421 ).
She's interested in an exchange and will ask you to trade.
The quest varies according to your subclass: craftsman, outfitter or scholar. See below.
|
- Craft 3 Incorporeal Confusilation Emanators (3 Mesmeric shell powder, 9 chalcedony, 3 ilmenite ore, 15 zimaran coal)
- Talk to Mesmer again, who finds your work passable but functional (if you ask me, I'm dreaming of gnome kabobs right now).
NPC: Nazeera (Western Wastes, 146, 9, -421 )
Quest: Equitable Exchange: Scholar/Outfitter/Craftsman (reward: 3 Mesmeric Shell Powder , Status coin +75 000)

Quest: Stealthy Supplies: Runechase (reward: Crafter's Makeshift Helmet, Petamorph Wand: Magic Vine Hand, spell W.H.A.T. Ultimate, 3 Status coin +100 000, ability to fly in the expansion)
Return to Raffik, whose crew is, fortunately, in good health. He tells you that the Kromzek giants may have found a way to deactivate the barrier around Western Wastes. Your W.H.A.T. may enable you to track them down and find out what their idea is (W.H.A.T. is not mandatory).
- Find signs of the Kromzek.
Go back to where you collected the leathers and follow the ridge to the right until you find a dead Kromzek (-533, 66, 593 ).
His corpse contains a list of ingredients for the barrier-dissipating spell. All that remains is to find the trackable ingredients.
- Find 1 Rune Focusing Powder near the obelisk on the edge of the ice floe (585, 6, 141 )
- Find 17 Elemental Draconic Runes all over the path you followed and in the ice area.
- Return to Raffik, who is delighted to have found his ship's bell.
He collects your ingredients and creates the spell, which he casts on you and plans to cast on his bell and others. You can now all cross the magic barriers leading to Western Wastes and fly around (you may need to zone for the flying to work).
This character now has access to Ledat's daily crafting missions (75, 7, 659 ), giving you research time reduction and status. You'll need to collect components and craft items for the camp.
The research assistant for advanced recipes is unlocked for all crafters on your account. Researcher Aushta can be found in Sodden Archipelago, in the crafting hut (16, 5, 370 ).
