Tinkerfest 2021

Welcome to Tinkerfest 2021, the celebration of gnomish ingenuity ... or something like that. You never know when some gnomish invention will be a rousing success (often by accident), or when it will blow up in someone's face!

This event will run from July 23, 2021 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific through August 5, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific on all live servers, with the following notes on special servers:

  • Kaladim - The event is active, with the following exception (due to expansion availability): The Reticent Tinkerer, and "Hack 'n Slash" (PQ)
  • Tarinax - A special Tinkerfest themed merchant, a celebrating tinkerer, and the The Shiny Tinkerfest Cog, the currency used to purchase event items, are located in the city of Freeport and Qeynos Capitol District.

This year features one new recipe book, one new 5-quest Overseer series, ten new buyable items and one new reward for a returning quest. Before I dive into those, though ...

Are YOU New?

Is this your first time celebrating this event? Or is your memory fuzzy enough that you need a refresher?

  • Gnomeland Security in the Steamfont Mountains is the main hub for this event, with portals from all "celebration" areas sending you back to the main hub in Gnomeland. (Celebrating gnomes, surrounded by harvestable cogs and purple shinies, can be found in all home cities as well as the docks of Thurgadin, the gnome area in Solusek's Eye, and Dropship Landing in the Moors)
  • The shiny tinkerfest cogs, used for shopping and for crafting, are harvestable "!" items in all celebration areas. They can also be brought back by an upgraded pack pony (100 per 2-hour run).
  • The second purple shiny collection (added in 2016) requires that you have completed (and handed in) the first purple shiny collection. Once you have done so, half of the collection can then be found in the Gnomeland Security area; the other half of the collection will be found in Qeynos and Freeport in the celebration areas.
  • You will need to know the gnomish language (from a language trainer if you're not a gnome) in order to obtain some of the quests.
  • Vendor Tarly in Gnomeland Security will sell all of the past Tinkerfest recipes and items for you while vendor Myron will sell the current year's recipes and items. You will need some shiny tinkerfest cogs before you can buy the books, so scrounge up a few before you go shopping.
  • The quest tracker included in a section below will be a godsend if you are trying to run more than one alt through the event. Quest details for all the quests can be found on the wiki's Tinkerfest article.
  • Protip: if you see an item sold on either Myron or Tarly costs 2 shiny Tinkerfest cog, it means that it can also be crafted. (The price on the two ladders is being changed on Test to 3 coins apiece so they aren't confused with the crafted items.)

New Crafted

Tinkerfest Blueprints 13.0 from Myron contains recipes for the following items, all requiring shiny Tinkerfest cogs and tier 3 (level 20-29) commons.

Blue Auto-pop Gnomad Tent
Carbonite Spring Sculpture
Coarse Gold Floor Panel
Golden Floor Plating
Golden Spring Sculpture
Iceclad Plated Tinkered Chest
Riveted Plate (full block set)
Stack of Tinkerer's Large Bowls
Starry Chandelier*
Tinkered Propeller Blades (Inactive)
Tinkered Sound Amplifier
Tinkerer's Large Bowl
Tinkerer's Oblong Bowl

NOTE: The Starry Chandelier currently only shows the lights when viewed on the high performance graphics setting. Kaitheel is trying to see if there is a way to fix this now, but isn't sure it will be possible.

New Buyable Items

Myron in Gnomeland Security not only sells the recipe book for the new crafted items, and the new crafted items as well (for those strange folks who can't stand to craft for some reason), but 10 new vendor-only items. The below items require Shiny Tinkerfest Cogs for purchase.

There are a lot of extra explanations for some of these, so if you see a "*" after the item name, be sure to read the Notes section below the image table!

Clockwork Hand of Boling Energy*
5 cogs (preview not complete, see below)
Explosive Gyro Fligger*
5 cogs
Iceclad Plated Magic Mouth*
5 cogs (preview not complete, see below)
Shocking Carbonite Spring Sculpture
5 cogs
The Manaetic Behemoth Plushie*
8 cogs
Tinkered Propeller Blades (Active)*
5 cogs
Tinkerer's Carbonite Ladder*
3 cogs
Tinkerer's Rhodium Ladder*
3 cogs

*Notes:

*Clockwork Hand of Boiling Energy is an item with a special graphical effect upon placement that means, like other special effect items that we've received from events lately, it cannot be resized. The full appearance of the placed item is below these notes.

*The Explosive Gyro Fligger will fling you safely into the air, just like other "bouncer" effects, but with a small visual explosion as it does so.

*The Iceclad Plated Magic Mouth works like other magic mouth items, broadcasting a player-set message whenever someone approaches within a certain (player-set) range of the item.

*The Manaetic Behemoth Plushie has a looped idle animation that includes that cog on the top of the torso dropping down into the inside of the chassis, some red electricty zapping across the opening, and it stamping a foot down. The foot-stamp does make noise, so don't be startled if you start hearing random thumping noises after you place it.

*Tinkered Propeller Blades (Active) - Some feature of the animation on the fan blades mades the blades on the active version disappear if viewed from a distance (the inactive version is fine). This isn't a bug, but it is something that decorators should be aware of when they're making installations using these that can be viewed from a distance.

*Both ladders have actual climbing surfaces, and will have the player using the climb animation as they climb up them.

Returning Quest - New Reward

(This information was added after the initial preview was published because Mum was blind and missed it in the testing notes.) The quest "Fiddledeegrak's Great Invention" has a new reward choice this year. Of course, only someone with a name like Fiddledeegrak give it a name like this, but I present to you, the "Flooblecrank Box Hat". (If you're laughing over this one, you're not alone!)

New Overseer Quest

Tibbles Aclatter can be found in the Gnomeland Security area of Steamfont at /way -538, 173, 998 and will offer the repeatable "Mechana Arcanus" series of Overseer quests.

The quests and rewards are as follows (each quest also rewards a standard overseer reward crate in addition to the below):

  • Mechana Arcanus - Vaulted Component. Reward: Petamorph Wand: Hazardust Wisp
  • Mechana Arcanus - Drednever Component. Reward: minion Reuben Goldbar
  • Mechana Arcanus - Maldura Component. Reward: Gnemlin Researcher Illusion**
  • Mechana Arcanus - D.I.R.T.Y. Component
  • Mechana Arcanus - Celestial Component. Rewards: Innovation Sentry Plushie; Prefix Title: Mechana Arcanist

*It should be noted that there are preview issues with the Gnemlin Research Illusion. I am not including an image of the illusion until Kaitheel has decided how it will be changed/fixed on Test.
