September 02, 2005 - SOE Asking for Help for Victims

From the login screen:

Please Lend a Helping Hand in the Wake of Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina has left an incredible wake of destruction across the Mid-Atlantic States. Sony Online Entertainment would like to ask you to take a moment to make a donation to the American Red Cross in order to help alleviate some of the suffering.

In EverQuest II we have added the /donate command--type in /donate to be taken to the American Red Cross's Hurricane 2005 relief page. The American Red Cross will process your donation and make sure that it is put to maximum use to help those whose lives have been affected by the hurricane.

For our 13,000+ players in the affected areas, we will be suspending billing until such time as they are able to play again. In addition, any items or structures in any of our games that decay over time will be preserved until the user's next login.

Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.

July 21, 2005 - A Couple More Little Things

*** Tradeskills ***

  • Dreak's Note is available for purchase from merchants in the tradeskill shops. Anyone who has not already undertaken the "Seeking a Profession" quest can buy a copy.
  • Some of the new corpse loot that was missing its description or that didn't work in the correct recipes has been fixed.

July 20, 2005 - Patch Goodies

Today's patch has a lot of interesting things, from changing your bind point to alllll sorts of goodies for tradeskillers. I recommend you read the entire patch message, but here's the tradeskill stuff to get you started:

*** Artisan Quests ***

  • We have introduced a series of quests for new players to better explain how to become an artisan and to help them decide which style of crafting they prefer.
  • Examining the note given to new players by Assistant Dreak on the Isle of Refuge (or obtained when they leave the island) will now grant a quest leading them to their tradeskill society.
  • Once inside, budding artisans will be guided through the steps of making many different types of items. This will explain the benefits of each of the crafting classes.
  • New players will learn how the crafting process works, plus earn tradeskill experience and cash through these quests. Each stage of the "Seeking a Profession" quest awards a different volume of the Artisan Essentials series.
  • Completing the quest series provides a tunic that gives bonuses to artisan skills and will make the crafter a citizen of their home city if they haven't become one already.

*** Tradeskills ***

  • The recipes for creating primary interim components using Apothecary, Geomancy, Timbercraft, and Weaving which required 10 fuels now require 2.
  • You should now be able to complete and advance in quests to make Middling Thirst for Blood
  • The Yew Fighting Baton recipe now uses woodworking reaction arts instead of weaponsmith reaction arts.

July 14, 2005 - Meep

The WtK?! show that was to air on OGaming Radio tonight is having some technical issues. The airing of the interview wasn't canceled, just troubled by gnomish monks ... or something. It will be rescheduled (likely for the same time/day next week), and we'll post more details once Nareena has chased a few folks around with my rolling pin. {grins}

July 02, 2005 - Back Once Again!

Bread, dough and pasta are now back on tradeskill vendors - a happy thing for the higher-tier chefs who need lots of these tier 1 subcomponents...

In other news this week, the various spirit totems should now have a duration of 30 minutes. (Ok, ok, so I am a bit slow on getting up the patch notes this week.)

June 21, 2005 - More Frizznik Unleashed!

Sorry I forgot to put this up earlier in the day:

*** Tradeskills *** (a.k.a. Frizznik unleashed!)

  • - Successfully countering tradeskill events will now always result in a successful round of tradeskilling (+50 progress, -10 durability) with +/- mods you earned for that round. Previously you would be getting +/- mods and then could get 5 different degrees of success cCritical failure, failure, nothing, success, and critical success).
  • - Blessing of Ages is now a poison which does a very large amount of upfront damage and a very small amount of damage over time. It has been renamed Torrent of Ages.
  • - Tradeskill created poisons that claimed that they would do either "a large amount of upfront damage and a small amount of damage over time" or a "very large amount of upfront damage and a very small amount of damage over time" will now actually do what they say.
  • - Honey Liqueur and Rum now properly ask for "Raw Honey" and "Raw Cardamom" respectively.
  • - The recipe for Mooshga Musha now asks for "Crab Meat" instead of "Crab Parts."
  • - The recipes for Packet of Spice, Pasta, Griffin Steak, Jumjum Cider, Orange Cider, Fayberry Cider, Wild Apple Cider, and White Peach Cider have been changed to interim recipes requiring 200, 300, 450, and 600 progress for each quality level rather than 400, 600, 800, and 1000.
  • - The recipe for Fir Pike now correctly asks for a Carbonite Spike.
  • - Fir Spell Binder Staff should now properly ask for "Gold Ornaments". Oak Spell Binder Staff should now properly ask for "Velium Ornaments". Teak Spell Binder Staff should now ask for 2 ornaments.
  • - Spirit totems no longer have an upper level cap on them. The illusion and effect should now work properly for any level above the minimum level requirement.
  • - Carpentry reaction arts have been changed to be more inline with each other as follows:
  • - Concentrate changed from +9 progress -5 power to +28 progress -6 success.
  • - Metallurgy changed from +27 progress -9 success to +9 progress - 5 power.
  • - Tee Joint changed from +10 durability - 3 success to +20 durability -10 progress.

June 17, 2005 - Frizznik Unleashed

For those of you who haven't followed the forums this week, the following is likely to come as a surprise. (Those who have been watching Frizznik ginsu through bug and issues lists may feel a strange sense of awe at the speed in which this happened, but it's at least not a total surprise.) I'd go around passing out happy halfling hugs right about now, but I don't want to give anyone the flu. So, I'll settle for saying, "Enjoy!"

Without further ado, here is the tradeskills section from today's patch notes:

*** Tradeskills *** (a.k.a. Frizznik unleashed!)
  • - Certain tradeskill writs for Jewelers, Sages, and Weaponsmiths that had stopped working can once again be completed.
  • - Loose Loam will no longer function as a dye.
  • - Acorns can now be harvested in level 20 to 30 zones.
  • - Apothecary, Geomancy, Weaving, and Timbercraft recipes will now designate in their names that they use one of these secondary tradeskills. This should clear up confusion on duplicate recipe types.
  • - The health damage caused by many failed tradeskill events has been halved. The values used previously weren't very forgiving.
  • - Wash, Oil, Resin, and Tempers will now only produce pristine versions. The difference in quality is based on quantity.
  • - Store-bought harvest tools now carry a small skill mod to the appropriate harvesting skill.
  • - The spell "Torment" has been removed from tradeskill writs because it no longer exists.
  • - The misspelling of "tigre" has been corrected in tradeskill writs.
  • - The following culinary beverage recipes have changed to allow for a smoother progression.
    • - Jumjum Brandy changed from level 4 to 8.
    • - Pond Juice changed from level 4 to 5.
    • - Nutmeg Fizzlepop changed from level 6 to 5.

    • - Changed Gin Tonic from level 23 to 26.
    • - Changed Gin from level 26 to 24.
    • - Changed Big Fayberry from level 24 to 26.
    • - Changed Fayberry Martinia from level 26 to 28.
    • - Changed Fayberry Wine from level 28 to 26.
    • - Changed Brown Ale from 27 to 26.
    • - Changed Rolled Oat Malted Milk from level 36 to 34.
    • - Changed Ambrosia from level 35 to 37.
    • - Changed Honey Liqueur from level 37 to 35.
    • - Changed Gnoll Bite from level 35 to 39.
    • - Changed Hog's Breathe Bock from level 39 to 36.
    • - Changed Wild Apple Wine from level 39 to 35.

    • - Changed Corn Malted Milk from level 45 to 44.
    • - Changed Stolen Epitaph from level 45 to 49.
    • - Changed Sea Foam from level 47 to 48.
  • - The different quality levels of Luminous Elixir now have the proper number of charges.
  • - The misspelling in "a pristine cloth portrait" has been corrected.
  • - The effect on Clouded Spirit of the Ox has been changed to be a "Spirit of Ox" effect.
  • - The recipe for Cracked Spire has been changed from level 4 to 5.
  • - The recipe for Griffin Steak has been changed from level 35 to 32.
  • - The recipes for Steel Vanguard Gauntlets and Feysteel Vanguard Gauntlets were asking for the incorrect type of Studs. The proper stud was being accepted though. Changed the description of the stud to be what actually is needed.
  • - The recipe for Briarwood Lumber will now only return one briarwood scrap at worked quality level.
  • - Meat can now be harvested from Commonland Dens.
  • - The following Carbonite Weapons will now longer be given out in writs: Harpoon, Cardiche, Hatchet, Javelin, Flail, Kukri, and Maul. Tailored Boiled Whips have been removed as well.
  • - Recipes have been added to create arrows from rare arrowheads.
  • - The recipe for Luda's Resonant Sonata has been renamed to match the name of the product, Gerard's Resonant Sonata.
  • - Interim culinary drink recipes now require the proper amounts of progress for the different quality levels. Some of them were higher than intended. Recipes that were affected are:
    • - Black Coffee
    • - Brandy
    • - Jumjum Juice
    • - Nutmeg Fizzlepop
    • - White Tea
    • - Antonican Coffee
    • - Black Tea

    • - Fayberry Sparkling Wine
    • - Gin Tonic
    • - Mountain Coffee
    • - Oolong Tea
    • - Tequila
    • - Green Tea
    • - Honey Fizzlepop
    • - Ice Coffee
    • - Rolled Oat Malted Milk
    • - Schnapps
    • - Wild Apple Juice
    • - Absinthe
    • - Pu-Erh Tea
    • - Robust Coffee
    • - Rum
    • - White Peach Juice
    • - Barley Malted Milk
    • - Wheat Malted Milk
    • - Cinnamon Fizzlepop
    • - Rye Malted Milk
    • - Cardamom Fizzlepop
    • - Corn Malted Milk

Some stuff, like the change to receive only pristine washes, oils, resins and tempers of varying amounts, will require that the very busy House Ogre whip up some batch changes to the database (which will take some time, given his schedule). We'll see if we can get the provisioning recipe level changes caught up in the next day or two, though.

June 15, 2005 - More from the Fan Faire

Frizznik posted his commentary on the tradeskill issues from the Fan Faire on the SOE forums. To aid those of you who can't read those forums from w*rk, I've included a reprint of it at the bottom of my Fan Faire notes. There are some good extra details there (including information from side-conversations that I missed) and a request for more details on which provisioner recipes require components that are higher-level than the finished recipe. If you can help with lists of such mis-matched cooking recipes there's a post started here."

June 13, 2005 - Fan Faire News

Just a quick note to let folks know I've not forgotten the promised news from the Fan Faire. Since my notes contain pages and pages of stuff from the Community Leader summit, and the Fan Faire, with EQ and EQ2 stuff intermixed (as well as tradeskill and non-tradeskill), it's taking some pretty solid time to get it all transcribed and formatted for the appropriate site(s). (2 hours of work done so far, I expect to finish in another hour, if I don't need to stop for fooooood before then.) Meanwhile, I promised some folks a relink of the Straightjacket of Tradeskilling shots that were posted on the forums in the fall.

Update:

Fan Faire notes are now up, including info on tradeskills, the Desert of Flames fall expansion, and more. You can find them here.

June 10, 2005 - From the Fan Faire

I'm pretty exhausted here (as is my failing voice), so I'm not posting a lot in the short while before we have to go back down for the dinner tonight, but the EQ2 tradeskill panel today had a great announcement of something that Frizznik has in-development for tradeskillers. Basic information is on the message boards in this post. Hopefully it'll give you folks something to chew on until I can make a more solid post with news from the Fan Faire on Monday-ish.

It may take a bit to sort out what changed with provisioner drinks and get it updated in the database. Please post in the Database Update Submissions forum when/if you have any corrections to the recipes in the database. I'll work on getting the appropriate recipes into the books we've already got in the database. We'll get pictures into the furniture section of the site as folks either post images to our forums, or I unbury enough to make them. From the names, some of these may exactly match in graphics some existing furniture, but until they've been made and we can compare screenshots, it's impossible to tell if the "open chest of skulls" is an exact match for the rare "fir trophy box". IF they do match, don't fret. Help us collect a list we can send in, and we'll see if we can get the graphics on one or the other to be changed. :)

May 11, 2005 - More Furniture News

For those who don't sift through the forums with a fine-toothed comb, Frizznik has stated that furniture recently removed from vendors will be available via new carpenter recipes with the next live update. Wheeeeeeee.

Update: You will find more details on which furniture is in what book in the patch notes for Live Update 9(a), which is currently on the Test Server.

May 06, 2005 - What's Up with the Site?

We've started to get whimpers due to the slow speed with which the database seems to be growing, so I put together a bit of an explanation of where we stand in this article. I'll try to give a couple updates a month so that folks can more easily see the database growth. It is steadily growing, it is just often easier to see the gaping holes in the data than it is to see where we've filled in several cracks.

The How To section of the site, and the corresponding Tradeskill Guide Submissions forum have been mostly in a holding pattern for a while, as our tradeskill guide editor got attacked by RL (Real Life). We'll see about getting someone else to do article selection and editing. Meanwhile, for those who missed it, while prepping for major dental surgery (over 9 hours under anesthesia!) last month, I had food on the mind, so wrote up You Are What You Eat. Bon appetit!

May 05, 2005 - Furniture changes!

A smaller patch was dropped in yesterday afternoon that fixed some login issues, offline selling issues, etc. Additionally:

By order of the Overlord and Queen Bayle, furniture is no longer available for purchase from city merchants. They may have some barrels and buckets left for sale, but the majority of home furnishings will now only be available from Carpenters.

May 04, 2005 - Live Update #8

Live update #8 was released this morning. Below is the tradeskill portion of the patch message. 'Mum's comments are in italics - running late for an appt. so will clean this up a bit more later:

*** Tradeskills ***

  • - Wash, oil, resin, and tempers no longer share the same icon. Washes are now blue vials, oils are yellow oil cans, resins are green vials, and tempers are brownish-orange vials.
  • - Carpenter recipes for dowels, planed wood, and wood staves will now require sculpting/craftsmanship to produce instead of fletching/woodworking. Will try to get the ones of these already in the recipes database updated this week.
  • - The carpentry insight event will now return the technique buff properly, instead of consistently giving +150 progress and durability.
  • - The recipe for Ebon Vanguard Gantlets now properly requests fulginate studs instead of ebon.
  • - Harvestable objects used in trapping have been renamed to creature dens, critter dens, beast dens, and animal dens. Please post to the forums with which name is used in which zone, and we'll update the Node Knows article accordingly.
  • - Trapping dens within Nektulos Forest can now contain pig and lion meat. hrrrmmm ... the problem we'd reported was with Commonlands, not Nek Forest. Can someone confirm if there's still absolutely no harvestable tier 2 meats on the evil side?
  • - The following weapon imbue recipes have been added:
    • - Imbue Blackened Iron Crescent Axe - Advanced Weaponsmith Weapon Imbuing Volume 1
    • - Imbued Feyiron Spear - Weaponsmith Weapon Imbuing Volume 3
    • - Imbued Fulginate Short Spear - Weaponsmith Weapon Imbuing Volume 4
    • - Imbued Fulginate Claymore - Weaponsmith Weapon Imbuing Volume 4
    • - Imbued Fulginate Bastard Sword - Weaponsmith Weapon Imbuing Volume 4
    • - Imbued Ebon Sabre - Weaponsmith Weapon Imbuing Volume 4.
  • - Carpenters can now refine lumber using their own skills and reaction arts. These new carpentry recipes will appear in the following recipe books: Carpenter Essentials Volume 20, Advanced Carpenter Volume 20, Carpenter Essentials Volume 30, Advanced Carpenter Volume 30, and Carpenter Essentials Volume 40, and Advanced Carpenter Volume 40. Again, I'll see about updating what's already in the database later this week
  • - The icon for bowstrings is now more appropriate.
  • - Credit will be given when harvesting Seafury Mackerels, Cauldron Blowfish, or Figs as part of a wholesaler task.
  • - Roasted Rye can now be created at level 20. Will try to remember to update this in the db later today
  • - Essence of Fury has been removed from Alchemist Essentials Volume 48 and Advanced Alchemist Volume 48, as the art no longer exists.
  • - Imbued Cedar Wands will now have greater intelligence bonuses as their quality is increased. New stats for these will be needed for the Database Updates forum
  • - Float Glass will now use 2 fuels instead of 10. This should be for the apothecary version of the recipe

April 14, 2005 - Odds and Ends

For those who haven't read it yet, Gallenite put up a new Producer's Letter a couple days ago. I strongly recommend reading it, as it contains a bit about the changes to overland zones and populations.

The folks at EQNews.Us have asked us to announce that they've got a giveaway contest going for a couple copies of EQ2, EQ Platinum and a couple autographed EQ2 posters.

I also saw mention on that site that the wait for frogloks as a playable race is almost over, and it is expected that in the May publish, the ability will be added for folks to quest for the ability to play a froglok, as well as to get involved in the server-wide quest to unlock frogloks for the entire server. Froaaaaakkkkkkkkk!
