Steamfont Mountains Level 30 Crafting Quests

When you become a level 30 crafter, you will receive an email telling you to head over to Gnomeland Security to help out. Note that you don't need to receive that email in order to do the quest, it just helpfully points you in the right direction. (The end of the level 20 series in Butcherblock Mountains also refers you to Karalyn, but if you head there before you are level 30, you won't get the quest starter.)

Getting Started

Level 30+ crafters should seek out Karalyn Cinderton at Gnomeland Security in Steamfont Mountains. Yes, there is more questing, more crafting xp, AA XP, coin, Far Seas faction, crafting rares etc., a salty house item, and an amusing bit of field testing for EQ2's own version of ... the Mythbusters?!

As with the level 10 and 20 quests that were added at the same time, there are advanced recipe books unlocked at the completion of the series. Once you finish the quests, Karalyn will sell you your advanced level 30-39 recipe books.

You should be able to find everything that you need, fuel-wise, on the vendors in the area. You can also find both a banker and a broker in Gnomeland Security. However, it is always better to plan in advance, so here is a handy shopping list of all the materials needed for these quests:

  • 1 velium cluster
  • 4 feyiron cluster
  • 1 rough opaline
  • 3 tussah root
  • 3 briarwood lumber
  • 3 glimmering coal
  • 6 glimmering candle
  • 9 glimmering sandpaper

Good Ore Bad?

(This is the end of the level 20 Butcherblock Mountain series that sends you along to Steamfont. If you have not done the BBM series, ignore this - it is not necessary in order to do the rest.) Bartleby thanks you for your assistance and asks you to deliver some of the ore samples to Karalyn Cinderton, currently working in the Steamfont Mountains.

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, coin, Far Seas Trading Company Token, tradeskill XP, AA XP.

It seems that Karalyn Cinderton is having problems assaying the ore quality because she has run out of supplies. Will you help her?

Material Support

The first thing Karalyn needs is a clockwork zapper in order to retrieve an undamaged battery from a clockwork. You receive a recipe for Experimental Notes on Clockwork Zapping. Scribe it to learn Clockwork Zapper, which will require 1 velium cluster, 1 feyiron cluster, 1 rough opaline, and 3 glimmering coal. Craft it on a workbench.

After crafting it, the quest will update and ask you to use the device on a haywire clockwork spider to obtain a battery from it. The spiders are, of course, found in the area near Klak'Anon. You can take the in-zone mount system to Klak'Anon and find a nearby spider. (Watch for aggro in the area if you're a low-level squishie!)

Once you use the device on a spider you will need to right click on it to collect the battery. Then return to Karalyn for your reward.

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, coin, Far Seas Trading Company Token, tradeskill XP, AA XP

Salt Of The Earth

The battery acid isn't the only thing Karalyn needs of course. (And of course she couldn't ask for all of it at once!) Next she requests that you get her some salt. You should be able to find some along the edges of the nearby geysers and hot springs. There is, of course, aggro in these areas as well, if you are a low-level adventurer.

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, Far Seas Trading Company Token, coin, tradeskill XP, AA XP, and Pure Salt Crystals house item.

Essaying Assaying

- Now you can finally start the process of assaying the quality of the ore. First you'll mix the battery acid and salt to create "Cinderton Acid". Karalyn should give you receive Cinderton's Ore Assay Techniques, vol. 1 which you will scribe to learn Cinderton Acid and Ore Quality Assay. You will also get the ingredients: Clockwork Battery Acid, a Pure Salt Crystal, Copper Metal, and Crushed Mortartoe Mine Ore. You'll have to provide 6 glimmering candle for fuel. Craft the first item, the Cinderton Acid, on the nearby chemistry table. After completing that, you can use the same chemistry table to do the Ore Quality Assay using the remaining ingredients.

Once you have completed both combines, turn the assay in to Karalyn who has a conniption fit because the ore is of such high quality. (Gnomes. They're so odd sometimes!) She thanks you for your efforts and suggests that you go see Adam Cogbuster for more work.

Building A Better Dummy, Part 1

Head over to Adam who explains that his weapons have become so powerful that he needs a better target dummy. When you ask him for a recipe he admonishes you that you need to find one yourself. (You might want to see if Karalyn has anything.)

Buy the Dummies For Dummies book from Karalyn and scribe it to receive the recipes for a Durable Test Dummy, Reinforced Test Dummy, and A Sturdy Target Dummy. I bet you can guess where this is going already ...

Create A Sturdy Target Dummy for Adam and Jamie on a Woodworking Table. You will need 1 tussah root, 1 briarwood lumber, 1 feyiron cluster, and 3 glimmering sandpaper.

Take the dummy to Jamie Sprocketbreaker.

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, coin, Far Seas Trading Company Token, tradeskill XP, AA XP

'Snot A Problem

- Jamie wants you to set up the Dummy that you just created on the testing range and then test out his new invention, a Troll Snot Flinger, on it to check its durability.

You will receive the Troll Snot Flinger (testing prototype). Place the target dummy over near the wall where the targets are, then use the flinger on it. Um, yeah, that didn't go so well for the dummy, did it? (Aren't you glad you're not the one who has to clean up the mess?)

Return to Adam for your reward.

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, coin, Far Seas Trading Company Token, tradeskill XP, AA XP,and your choice of one T4 rare.

Building A Better Dummy, Part 2

Adam scolds you, saying you need to build a stronger target dummy. Luckily, that recipe book also had the plans for a Durable Test Dummy. Create that on the woodworking table using 1 tussah root, 1 briarwood lumber, 1 feyiron cluster, and 3 glimmering sandpaper.

Return to Jamie to receive your reward./

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, coin, tradeskill XP, AA XP

You're In The Gnarmy Now

Jamie would like you to test the Durable Test Dummy against the Troll Snot Flinger as well as his new invention, the Gnarmy!

Place your target dummy then first use the flinger and then the Gnarmy! Rawwwwr, look at that little (gn)army go! Yep, looks like you still need a stronger dummy!

Return to Adam with the results.

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, coin, Far Seas Trading Company Token, tradeskill XP, AA XP, and one T4 rare.

Building A Better Dummy, Part 3

Adam is happy that the dummy lasted against at least one attack but would like you to try just one more time to build an even better one. (Well, at least he isn't scolding you for anything this time! :D)

Using the final recipe that you received, create the Reinforced Test Dummy using 1 tussah root, 1 briarwood lumberwood, 1 feyiron cluster, and 3 glimmering sandpaper at a woodworking table.

Return to Jamie for your reward.

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, coin, tradeskill XP, AA XP

Beaks Away!

- As Jamie says, you know the drill. Place the dummy, test the flinger, the gnarmy!, and also his new invention the Tinkered Turkey Launcher. Wheee, look at those turkeys go!

Return to Adam for your reward.

Rewards: +500 Far Seas Supply Division, coin, Far Seas Trading Company Token, and one T4 rare.

Now you are done! Adam tells you to return to Karalyn. When you do, you will find that you now have the ability to buy the advanced level 30-39 books from her.
