This quest is no longer in existence due to changes that came with LU19. We're keeping it here for historical purposes a bit longer.
This quest originates on the Isle of Refuge and can be performed by any new adventurer still on the island. It will gain you tradeskill experience, a 4-slot bag, and an attuneable bracelet
Near the docks at the Isle of Refuge, you will find Malvonicus' Tower. Standing just inside the tower is Assistant Dreak, and he's in a bit of a fix. Click on him to hail him.
Asssistant Dreak says to you, "Oh, hello there. Welcome to the mage tower. If you're looking for masters Mizan or Malvonicus, they can both be found upstairs. If you've come to use the workshop ... well, I'm afriad you're out of luck for the time being."
You say to Assistant Dreak, "Why, what happened to the workshop?"
Assistant Dreak says to you, "It's all my fault, really. I could've sworn I wrote down the directions for that alacrity potion correctly. I mean, honestly, who could've expected such a spectacular explosion? Now the lab's a mess, and no one can use the workshop. I can't even clean it up now, because I'm supposed to be welcoming the refugees."
You say to Assistant Dreak, "What's this workshop for anyways?"
Assistant Dreak says to you, "For crafting, of course! With the right recipes and materials, you can make just about anything you want down there, from metal working to brewing. Say ... if you're interested in learning more about crafting yourself, I'd be willing to make you a deal. I'll give you free, unlimited access to the workshop, if you'd be willing to clean up the place. What do you say?"
You say to Assistant Dreak, "All right, it's a deal."
Assistant Dreak says to you, "Wonderful! Here's a list of instructions on what needs to be done down there. Just go through the cellar door here, and you should find everything you need. Just come back and see me once you've got everything straightened out. Oh, and thanks again!"
You say to Assistant Dreak, "Very well then."
Proceed down into Mizan's Cellar, and follow the promptings of your quest journal - moving furniture around, putting out the hot coals, picking up/harvesting the resources on the floor. Once you are done, return up the ladder to speak with Assistant Dreak again.
Asssistant Dreak says to you, "Oh, hello there. Welcome to the mage tower. If you're looking for masters Mizan or Malvonicus, they can both be found upstairs. If you've come to use the workshop ... well, I'm afriad you're out of luck for the time being."
You say to Assistant Dreak, "I cleaned up the workshop."
Asssistant Dreak says to you, "That you did! I happened to poke my head down there and I must say that you've done a great job! Now there's just one more thing I need from you, and then you can feel free to use the place all you want."
You say to Assistant Dreak, "What's that?"
Asssistant Dreak says to you, "It seems that the explosion destroyed the lock on the door to the workshop, and I'll need a new one to replace it. I asked the blacksmith, Braksan, to make one for me, but he's so backed up repairing arms and weapons for the goblin incursions, that he said it would take at least a week for him to get to it. I was thinking that perhaps you, being interested in crafting and all, could make at least a spike to hold the entrance closed."
You say to Assistant Dreak, "Sure, but how?"
At this point, you gain enough tradeskill experience to ding you to artisan 2, and auto-learn the recipes for tin bar and tin spike.
Asssistant Dreak says to you, "First, you must gather all the components requires to make the spike. I'll provide you with the recipe and the ingredients required. Everything you need can be found on this island. Once you have them all, take them to the forge in the workshop and craft the spike itself. Return the lock to me once it's complete."
You say to Assistant Dreak, "All right, I'll be back with your lock."
Dreak then hands you 3 coal, 3 fossil temper and a 4-slot lore bag (Dreak's tailored bag). You should have the tin needed from cleaning up his cellar for him. Proceed back down into the cellar and find the forge. Double-click on it, and you should be presented with a list of your known forge recipes. In this case, that should be just tin bar and tin spike. Click on the tin bar recipe (make sure you have the goodies from Dreak in inventory!) and start crafting. Note that for making the tin bar and the tin spike, you will NOT see any crafting events, but when you go to craft other items later, you will, so don't get in the habit of daydreaming while crafting. {grins} Once the bar is complete, repeat the crafting process after selecting the tin spike recipe, then head back up the ladder to speak with Dreak again.
Asssistant Dreak says to you, "Well done! The masters will be so pleased with me...err, you, I mean! As promised, you're welcome to use the workshop for all of your crafting needs as long as you stay on the island."
You say to Assistant Dreak, "Thanks"
He will then give you a "Note from Dreak", which gives you a quest to continue your tradeskill progress once on the mainland, and a "Dreak's finely crafted bracelet", an attuneable wrist piece. If you've not sold off or disposed of any of the items you obtained while performing this quest, you should have enough temper, coal and tin to make another tin bar, a process which should gain you enough tradeskill experience to progress to Artisan 4.
