As several of you know, we live in northern San Diego county. So far, so good. We have smoke on the horizon in more than one direction, but our area is still ok.

With the way the high and unpredictable winds are, however, things could change suddenly.

Trust me, we're keeping a VERY close eye on things, listening to the news, etc., etc., and have prepped a few things (such as cat carriers and such), for a fast getaway if need be. We do NOT. I repeat NOT expect it to be an issue for us.

The same cannot be said for a lot of people in the county, including many SOE employees. (I know the offices were closed, and several employees had to evacuate their homes.) Please. Keep them all the other victims in the area, and all emergency personel in the county in your thoughts and prayers.

October 17, 2007 - GU 39 is Here

Game Update 39 is patching to the servers now. You can view full patch notes here.

Due to some issues that I saw on Test on Monday, I am not sure if all six of the promised pieces of evil furniture made it in or not. Once the servers are back up and I can verify, I will update this post accordingly.

Also, if you have a bit of spare time between now and December, we are looking for not only data submissions, but a few data entry volunteers. Check out the Help Wanted section of our forums for more information.

Update: It looks like only the Lucanic Vase of Enmity, the Dirty Bedroll, and the Oggokian Torch made it in with the update. (Domino is aware that the other three went MIA sometime after clearing QA, and at last check, was looking into finding out what happened to them. Personally, I blame those Freeport Militia folks who had been harassing Ngranna. Anyone want to shake them down and see if they can come up with the coffin, brazier and canopic jar? :D

The crafted plate armor fashion gallery was feeling a bit left out, after the chain gallery got a facelift earlier in the week. Kaisha was kind enough to give it some loving, however, and the plate armor gallery has been redone with new images.

Addendum: Domino has announced that crafting xp from tradeskill writs at the higher levels was a bit askew. The current xp rate gain will continue until the release of Kunark. You can read more here.

September 25, 2007 - The Best Laid Plans

First, a quick reminder that all SOE games, forums and suchlike are down for extended maintenance. As the day progresses (and after Mum gets some sleep!) I will try to pass on any updates that I find with regards to the work and any updated ETA. (Current estimates are anywhere from 14 to 24 hours, total, for the outage.) Hopefully, after throwing a monkey-wrench in my lovely plans for a downtime treat for everyone, Bristlebane will go gently on the maintenance. {fingers crossed}

What sort of monkey-wrench did Bristlebane throw in my plans? Well, the lovely stuff that I hinted about in yesterday's Not Evil Enough (Part 1) piece sort of ended up falling flat last night. (Or is it called tonight still, since I've not yet been to sleep?) It will still happen, sometime, but we do not know which what will arrive when. Check out more details, complete with a Komic from Kaisha in the middle of the tale in Not Evil Enough (Part 2).

Once you have finished with the story, such as it is, including the explanation that follows below it, check out Komic #6 and you'll see that Mum wasn't the only one to spend the Monday evening hours scrambling with/for inspiration based on the sudden change in plans! As always, well done, Kaisha!

September 24, 2007 - Not Evil Enough?

At first glance, Not Evil Enough (Part 1), may seem like a quickly thrown together partial tale, in a shameless bid to draw folks to the site during the extended game downtime tomorrow.

I will grant that it is quickly thrown together, and I do want to remind folks about the downtime tomorrow, but there is a method to my madness. While I can promise you that we will have up a new offering in the form of one of Kaisha's lovely Komics, there is something else in the works as well.

I am still waiting on final word on the other offering and while it may or may not be ready for tomorrow, it will definitely be available sometime this week, so keep your eyes peeled.

Just a quick note to let folks know that we are aware of the problems with our forums, and have contacted Racknine regarding the issue. Sadly, I have no further updates at this time.

September 20, 2007 - More on Downtimes

{grumble} Still no word on what is causing our forums to be inaccessible, which has me more than a bit unamused. Meanwhile, here is more information on the SOE extended downtime for next week:

Beginning at 11:30 p.m. PDT on Monday, September 24th, all SOE services will be unavailable so that we can perform significant upgrades to our authentication and account management systems. Currently we expect this maintenance to take approximately 14 hours. But as first indicated, it could extend to as long as 24. Customer service, chat and support will also be unavailable at this time. Phone support will still be accessible. SOE websites will continually be updated throughout the day as to the progress of the maintenance. We apologize for this interruption, however when service is resumed you will have an enhanced user experience to manage your accounts at Station.com.

The Great Rare Debate is still going on in the SOE forums, with a 22-page thread (and still going) about rares being too rare again, or being just fine, or too common, or something. While the vocal minorities from several different perspectives hash it out, we at EQ2TC are burying the old rare harvesting hatchet with one tongue-in-cheek look back at the rare harvesting situation just after GU37 with Komic #5: Achoo!

September 19, 2007 - Extended Downtime Next Tuesday

We just received warning of a 24-hour downtime for SOE games, forums, etc. Please make your gaming plans for next week accordingly:

All SOE games, websites, message boards, Knowledge Base, Station store, and other services will be unavailable for approximately 24 hours beginning on Tuesday, September 25th. All SOE services will be undergoing upgrades to the authentication system and as a result, all logins for SOE services will be unavailable. Technical and Account support will only be available by phone during this time. Please keep an eye on this website for more news and information about this maintenance as it becomes available. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this downtime.

September 12, 2007 - Addendum: Important Note for Katrina Victims

I was just finishing up the new tradeskill quest writeup when I came across this note in the SOE forums:

In the summer of 2005 Hurricane Katrina left an incredible wake of destruction across the Gulf Coast of the United States. The damage done by the hurricane was unprecedented and impacted countless lives. In response to the hurricane, SOE suspended billing for over 13,000 players living in the affected areas to give them the time they needed to recover.

For the two years that have followed, the accounts of the affected SOE gamers have not been billed but have been preserved. Beginning on Monday, September 17th, the accounts for these 13,000 SOE gamers will resume the normal billing processes. If you lived in an area affected by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 please check your account information before September 17th to ensure that everything is accurate and there is no disruption in your ability to play.

Our best wishes go out to all those who were affected by the disaster and we'd like to thank our SOE players for their continued patronage.
