In addition to the ongoing recipe and item additions to the database, several other things around the site have been added or updated in the last week or so.
The writeup for the level 75 crafter quest "High Risks, Higher Profits" has been added to the Quest section of the site. This quest is a followup to the level 70 crafter quest New Lands, New Profits and gives access to writs from the Shipyards of Danak in Jarsath Wastes.
A couple of the crafted gear progression charts have also been updated with tier 8 information. (The rest of them should be done by the end of the week.) As always, if you see any errors, let me know. The weapon progression, in particular, is a bit daunting, especially with some creative wield style changes on some weapons.
Last, but definitely not least, the Furniture Gallery has had several updates, not only to fix a few missing images, but also to integrate all the GU40/RoK furniture into the proper sections of the gallery.
Additional cleanup, integration of RoK data into the proper spots, and so on continues, as well as some research into the upcoming GU41, which was patched to Test today. (At this time, I do not expect to have any previews on the GU41 stuff ready until next week.)

The lower harvesting skill (240) needed for Kylong Plains was an unintentional oversight that will be changed with GU41 to be in line with the other tier 8 zones (340). Please plan accordingly if your T8 harvester(s) are currently below 340 in any of their harvesting skills. (Sorry, I have no ETA on GU41 at this time, but I haven't seen it on Test yet, so you should have some time to work on your skills.)

I am badly behind right now and extremely exhausted. I know I have more than one PM waiting for me that requires web work on my end (a new crafted weapon resource, items available via crafting factions, etc.), and I will get to them all, I promise! Just ... not today. I am taking some needed downtime for a day or two. Meanwhile, I have dropped some down and dirty tier 8 cloak images and stats onto the cloak fashion page to tide folks over.

The hotfix today addressed several things. Of special note to crafters (with Mum comments in italics):
- The Journeyman Service: This quest can now be obtained by speaking to the tradeskill Grandmasters. (The quest NPCs had been on short strike since last Tuesday)
- Bathezid, Danak and Riliss writs will now provide more favor upon completion! (Yayy! I will get hard numbers into the faction guide as soon as I verify them)
- A number of tradeskill writ and recipe bugs have been addressed. (Please let us know when you find something from our bug list that has been addressed)
In light of the American holiday of Thanksgiving tomorrow, Kaisha presents us with this Komic.

As we near the end of launch week, I would like to point out a few of the articles that were put together this week. They are also linked in places like the RoK Information Clearinghouse, but they deserve an extra look as the dust starts to settle.
There is a lot of talk about faction with the new expansion, and some of it includes high level crafters, not just adventurers. Hot off the virtual presses today (Friday), check out RoK Faction from a Tradeskill Perspective to gain insight into why you might (or might not) want to pursue these faction path options.
Are you easily lost? Confused about how to get to Teren's Grasp? Have no clue where to snag a leaf that allows you to use druid Kylong portals? (Not even aware that such a thing exists?) Check out Rok Travel for the Lost Crafter for a few handy hints from the queen of lost herself, Mum. (Edit: and somehow the link itself got lost! Fixed now!)
Just what is a sokokar, and why do you want one? More importantly, how can you, as a level 65+ crafter obtain one if you're a bit weak on the adventuring side? The Crafter Sokokar Quests guide gives details on the quest series that will let high-end crafters obtain access to this little fella, and the flight paths for Kunark.

Your harvesting tools no longer have to be equipped in order to provide you with the bonuses. However, they a) have to be attuned, and you have to re-equip them after death in order for the buffs to go back up for them (the buffs drop when you die).

Sound the gongs, bang the drums, the sarnak are about to be unleashed! The servers will be down from 5 a.m. Pacific, until around 1 p.m. Pacific, if all goes well. After I get a bit of sleep, I will be updating yet more guides on the site with new information, as well as nudging some things in the database. I will also see about getting some patch notes up, and will keep an eye on the EQ2TC forums for any expansion-related questions. (Again, after a bit of sleep, first, since I am on Pacific time.)
The RoK Information Clearinghouse guide that I threw up the other day will continue to be the main place on the site to get the EQ2TC RoK information gathered in one place. I want to make a special effort to point out one specific guide, however, called RoK Crafting Changes and You. I really, truly, recommend that you read it if you didn't thoroughly poke at crafting in beta, or you may be in for a few rough moments when you try to craft and your custom crafting UI crashes you, or your hotkeyed reaction arts don't work. (These two examples are happening for good reasons, and you will save yourself a ton of stress if you find out about them here, instead of finding out the hard way in the middle of a crafting session.) You are, of course, free to ignore my recommendation to read it, and I, in turn, will then feel free to say I Told You So when/if you complain, k? {grin}
Update #1 - the SOE forums are beyond sludged, due to all the eager players constantly refreshing as they await further news about the game. After many attempts to even read a single post, I got the link for the update notes, as well as a link to an SOE launch day photo gallery that Grimwell is doing via mojobaby and his cellphone. Since I can't guarantee how stable EQ2Players will be for the patch notes, I've reformatted them and put them up here. (link now fixed to go to the right article - doh!)
Helpful Reminder: If you use the EQ2Maps addon, remember to update it with the RoK maps!
Update #2: Downtime has been extended by one hour, until 2 p.m. Pacific, while QA makes sure everything is happy.
Update #3 - THE GAME IS UP - WHEEE!!!! |

So, I had it planned that this weekend, on top of making sure our database contortions didn't send anything askew, that I would also work on launch-day information, prepping the lovely furniture and fashion gallery images that Kaisha provided for us, and so on. I even took a little time off today to spend some quality naptime with one of my cats, who is recovering from knee surgery and has to be confined where there is absolutely nothing she will try to jump on for another seven weeks.
I got back to my office, preparing to check several more things in beta, and found this note from Gallenite (for those who can't access the link for any reason, the NDA on the expansion is now lifted). Aiyeeee!! I mean, yay!! The expansion is far more ready for this launch than I am right now, and I will be frantically flinging information to you folks left, right, sideways and diagonally as time and energy permit. I have moved the kitty-in-a-full-leg-cast and her bed to my office, blockaded the door so she cannot wander unsupervised, and am diving headfirst into stuff for you now.
There is nothing new there now. I repeat, nothing new there now, BUT as able, I will be updating the already-existing RoK Information Clearinghouse article with links to various details as I pull it out of my brain and dump it to the site. (Give me a half-hour headstart, k?) In the meantime, I will tantalize you with a tidbit that is going to be universally well-received. Harvestables and transmuter resources will stack to 200. Transmuter resources (fragments, powders, mana vials, infusions) will also display information on which tier they are used in.

With RoK right around the corner (next Tuesday!), it is time to get a bit of virtual housekeeping done around here.
The GU36, GU37 and GU38 new furniture items have been added to their appropriate galleries. While they are not yet all in full gallery format as far as the preview images or the larger scale images with the book used for size comparison, I figured that it would save folks a bit of page-hopping if they want to see all the beds at a glance, or chairs, etc., etc. In the process of updating the furniture galleries with these newer offerings, I also added a couple totally new gallery categories while I was at it. Enjoy!
The RoK release will also see a change in recipe format for many recipes, removing the first three quality levels of items, and only having the recipe create the pristine version of the item (returning either fuel for commons or the rare primary for most recipes). We have been warning about this since the June 13 front page update here on EQ2TC, and further details can be found in the ginormous thread over at the SOE forums for anyone who has managed to miss this information until now. (Most of you may be boggling at the fact that people have managed to miss this little detail after months of forewarning, but I have seen firsthand proof that some people are still clueless about it, so better to be safe than sorry on repeating this information.)
Anyway, on to how this ties into the housekeeping topic. We will be removing many of the easier ways to search the item and recipes databases for a couple days, in order to convert everything currently in the database into the new format. You can still get creative and access the data on the site via item IDs and recipe IDs during this time, but we will not guarantee that the data will not be equally creative in what it tells you at any given time during this process. There is just too much we need to turn inside-out and upside-down before restoring it all once again to be sure what state you will find it in. There is no ETA on when we will start this conversion, but it will be sometime between now and RoK launch on Tuesday. So, if you hit the Recipes or Search menubar buttons and they say something in large print about not being available due to data conversion, this is the reason why. I know this is a bit vague, but my brain is leaking out my ears trying to get a comprehensive logic path for our datbase gurus to follow for it all, as I chase in circles trying to make sure I have all the various exceptions and variations covered.
Our goal is to have the database fully operational once again before the expansion launch on Tuesday, and addition of any RoK items/recipes into the database will not occur until after launch.

The RoK Beta Key Giveaway is now complete. Winning names are posted in the above thread, as well as the correct answers. A rousing well done to all who entered. I hope folks had fun with it!
Meanwhile, the Dead Knights shop is having a final clearance sale before closing. You can check it out in Dead Knights #7. This concludes this Komic series, and we now return you to an irregular schedule for future Komics.

EQ2TC is proud to bring you
Dead Knights #6, along with our well-wishes for a safe and happy Nights of the Dead, no matter what name you call it by.
On the RoK front, as I post this, there are just over 24 hours left in our trivia contest to win a RoK beta invite, and the top score so far is 18 of 21 (and nobody else has come even that close). So, if you're a bit fuzzy on a few answers, it still isn't a bad idea to try your luck and enter. There is also a new page in our Tradeskill Guides section that is a collection of RoK-related links of interest. If you see any other writeups out there that you feel should be included, drop Mum a note in the forums.
Edit: SOE has just announced Race to Kunark bonus Sundays. From midnight to midnight (Pacific) on November 4, and November 11, there will be a 50% bonus to adventuring and crafting XP on all U.S. servers.
Edit of the Edit: This has now been changed from all U.S. servers, to all servers.

It is time for some last-minute shopping before the trick-or-treaters arrive in Dead Knights #5 I think Mum will pass on the gumballs this year, though! (Edit: That will teach me to post updates after midnight! This is Dead Knights 5, not 6!)

Part 2 of the DenMother-style RoK tour writeup is now in place. Thanks for your patience, everyone!
In addition, SOE has kindly given us 10 beta keys for the RoK beta. A small crafting trivia contest is now underway, and the deadline for entries is November 1 at 9 a.m. PDT. There isn't much time, since we want to get you into beta quickly, so those interested should check out this forum post soon! You will find that most of the answers come from information on this site, but some are not that straightforward. Good luck! |

That must mean it is time for the next Komic in the Dead Knights series! The Nights of the Dead celebrations have begun across Norrath, and the Dead Knights shop is doing a booming business. Can you guess who will be wearing pink for the festivities? The answer just may surprise you!

Since it is after midnight here, and thus technically Friday, and since I also want a chance to sleep in, if possible, I am throwing up the Friday content before I pass out.
What a week! While I had been hoping to have the first part of my beta press tour of the RoK expansion up at the start of this week, events conspired against me. However, I finally present to you, part silly story, part RoK tour quick preview of the expansion. Tradeskill nitty-gritty always needs some extra contortions, since it isn't part of a normal press tour, and I hope to have that meatier part 2 for you sometime next week. Meanwhile, take a look at the "RoK Press Tour, DenMother Style (part 1)!"
Meanwhile, Kaisha's Dead Knights series of Komics is picking up steam with her largest single Komic yet. I am just going to giggle myself to sleep after leaving you with Dead Knights #3

Kaisha promised the start of something new today on the Komic front and she delivered! Today begins the start of a mini-series of komics that go together in a story that will run every weekday until our own Nights of the Dead on October 31. We set the stage today with Ngranna introducing you to her new place of employment.

The three pieces of furniture that had not made it into GU39 (an event blamed on gremlins) were quietly patched in, it seems. Please welcome the the pristine canopic jar, thulian brazier and pristine simple sandalwood coffin! (Note that the canopic jar has the wrong difficulty level, and likely will have for a few days, as the devs have a few other priorities on their mind right now.)
