June 07, 2011 - Qho-Dependent!

In my GU60 preview last week, I promised, somewhere in the fine print, that there would be some Qho-related site news soon.

A couple weeks ago, I contacted a good friend of mine, webcomic artist LG of Paradigm Clutch (she draws the comic, her hubby writes the stories). I burbled semi-coherently: Qho-Dependent! This sparked a mental image in her mind, and she ran with it. The end result is a humorous comic of Mum and Qho for my Zazzle site, with time to have items delivered before Fan Faire.

Should you want the image (or any other image on our Zazzle site) on a different product, or with different text, please let me know ASAP in this message board thread so I can get it into place. (It can take up to 24 hours after I create the item for Zazzle to make it available.) That forum link also contains some of the international Zazzle links for those outside the USA who wish to order.

The image below has been shrunken and watermarked for posting here. The image used by Zazzle is larger, higher quality, and without the site URL marking it up.

June 02, 2011 - High-End Special Crafted Armors - Eugh!

GU60 added not only new crafted armor for Battlegrounds, but also new crafted armor in/for Drunder. Since this makes three crafted BG armor types, each with different recipes, and different methods of obtaining those recipes, and more than one type of velium shard armor (not to be confused with void shard armor), I sat down a few hours ago in an attempt to sort it all out coherently. I now have the grandaddy of all headaches, and the article is not even close to done. However, since it covers the new BG stuff, and the Drunder stuff, and those were not really covered in my GU60 preview, I am releasing the rough draft, so customers and crafters both have a starting frame of reference on which who gets what recipes where and how they go about making it. Level 80+ Special Crafted Armor Sets Again, this is a rough draft - please post additions and corrections to the forums here. I will also be expanding this out to all the goodies crafted from the DoV dungeon drops that require Forgemaster faction recipes ... once I unsnarl my brain a bit. ~Mum

June 01, 2011 - GU60 Crafting Quests

Two new crafting quest series were added with GU60. While I do not have writeups completed for either of them, I have created placeholder pages for Eastern Wastes Crafting Quests and Drunder Crafting Quests, so folks can figure out where to start them. More details on both will come "soon", once I process the rest of my quest logs.

May 31, 2011 - Prezzies!

The servers are back up from the GU60 update, and I have one reminder, and one surprise for you! First, remember to claim your free goodies from the /marketplace in celebration of the ratonga being able to start in good-aligned cities. Second, if you have completed the Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl, return to Tora (near the Ring War area), for an extra little surprise. Even though she has no quest feather over her head, chat with her, and she will give you five leftover Coldain Summoning Crystal house items. Shiny!

May 19, 2011 - Floored

All the lovely new housing prompted Mum to start cleaning out her storage attic. However, she ends up a bit distracted by a traveling floor salesman. See what all the fuss is about with a preview of some new floor tiles that will become available next month in Floored.

May 16, 2011 - Grotto Timer Issue

Some folks are having problems with no glowies and/or quest completions in the Moonlight Enchantments grottos. Domino responded on the SOE forums regarding the issue, and a recommendation:

I'm still trying to track down the exact cause of the problem, but it sounds as if it's at least partially related to the lockout timer. Since the lockout is for 25 days, if you did these quests on the very last day available last month, the timer may not be cleared until tomorrow (if I'm counting correctly). If you do seem to be having this problem, I suggest just leaving the grottos alone for a couple of days - they will be up all the way through the 22nd so you can check back at your convenience after your timers expire. In the mean time I will keep looking into the details.

May 15, 2011 - City Fest Note

Since I have heard several questions from folks who did not understand the welcome back post by SOE that was linked last night, here is a bit of clarification on the city festival portion of the news. ALL city festivals are running at the same time, purple glowie spawns and all. This means that every local specialties vendor at these locations is carrying all the city-specific items from every city (i.e., you can visit any city festival and to shop for them all). In addition, there are thirteen new house items on these local vendors. Yep, thirteen! You can take a look at them here. This city festival bonanza, as well as the grottos, will be running, along with all the bonus xp (including guild xp) until 9am Pacific on the 23rd, according to the /motd. Enjoy!

May 14, 2011 - Coming Back Up!

The FIRST thing you should do is change your password on your Station account, of course ... then go forth and have fun! I will update the crafting calendar once I have a chance to get in-game and check on which one is where right now.

SAN DIEGO, May 14, 2011 - Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) announced today that restoration of its game services will begin today. The phased restoration will include the return of nearly all of SOE's portfolio of online games, the reinstatement of SOE's game forums and websites, and added functionality to require players to reset their passwords.
Increased Security Measures
As the result of a criminal cyber-attack on the company's network, SOE shut down its game services in order for the company to undertake an investigation and incorporate rigorous enhancements to the overall security of the network infrastructure. SOE worked with several outside respected security firms during the course of implementing significant security measures that strengthen safeguards against unauthorized activity and provide customers with greater protection of their personal information.
SOE made enhancements to overall data security as well, including updating and adding advanced security technologies, additional software monitoring, performing new penetration and vulnerability testing, and increased levels of encryption.
"Our main priority is the safety and security of our customers' personal information," said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. "We are making consumer data protection a full-time, company-wide commitment, and have applied enhanced security technologies so that our customers can feel protected and confident about playing our games."
Hirai added, "We are committed to delivering secure and entertaining games for players of all ages and thank each of our players for their patience and support during this difficult time."
SOE will also be offering its customers a "Welcome Back" program that includes special game content and services to all registered Station Account holders. As part of this program, players will receive 30 days of additional game time plus one day for each day SOE's services were down. The details of this program are available at www.soe.com/securityupdate/welcomeback. For more information about the SOE network intrusion and restoration, please visit http://www.soe.com/securityupdate.

May 04, 2011 - Wednesday Update

SOE has posted an update here. For those who cannot access that site from their place of employment, but can read our site, here is the announcement:

We want to thank you again for your patience as we work to get the SOE services back up and running. We received several questions and comments relating to the criminal attack to our network and would like to address some of the most common questions today. We are also going to continue to post updates to this website with new information as they become available.
We appreciate your continued patience and feedback. Thank you, Sony Online Entertainment

When will SOE's services be back online?

We have been working around the clock to restore operations as quickly as possible, and we expect to have some of our games and services up and running soon. However, we want to be very clear that we will only restore operations when we believe that the network is secure.

How is the SOE intrusion related to the PSN/Qriocity intrusion? Was this a second attack on SOE?

While the two systems are distinct and operated separately, given that they are both under the Sony umbrella, there is some degree of overlap in design. The attacks were similar in nature. This is NOT a second attack; new information has been discovered as part of our ongoing investigation into the criminal attack in April.

How is SOE planning to notify customers whose data may have been stolen?

We are sending out customer service notification emails to the email addresses we have on file for the accounts that were affected. These emails will be sent by Innovyx, our third party email distributor, and contained either 'soe.innovyx.net' or 'soe.sony.com' in the sender field.

SOE initially thought no data was extracted, what changed?

Essentially the perpetrators used sophisticated means not only to access the data, but also to cover their tracks. We committed to continue the investigation and in doing so, uncovered further information that we did not have when we initially believed the data was not stolen.

May 03, 2011 - Updates

The last word from SOE was that they are

working as hard as we can to get the servers up as soon as possible, but have no ETA at this time.
As more information becomes available, I will echo it here.

Update:

Hey folks, in response to many inquiries, we wanted to reassure you that all of your characters and items are safe and awaiting your return. We continue to work on the issues as fast as we can, but unfortunately the servers will not come up today. Thank you for your continued patience; we expect to be back up very soon.

May 02, 2011 - More Emergency Downtime

This is from the SOE page on Facebook (since the forums are among all the things that are down due to this):

Dear valued SOE customers:
We had to temporarily take down SOE services during the night. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion of our systems, we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern. We will provide an update later today.

When I see more updates, I will repost them here. Meanwhile, I will get the site-based calendar updated for the rest of the month. ~Mum

UPDATE: SOE has put out a formal press release, and you may also be receiving information in email from them shortly. You can read the full release HERE, but here is a summary of the most important pieces:
We are today advising you that the personal information you provided us in connection with your SOE account may have been stolen in a cyber-attack. Stolen information includes, to the extent you provided it to us, the following: name, address (city, state, zip, country), email address, gender, birthdate, phone number, login name and hashed password.
Customers outside the United States should be advised that we further discovered evidence that information from an outdated database from 2007 containing approximately 12,700 non-US customer credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes) and about 10,700 direct debit records listing bank account numbers of certain customers in Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Spain may have also been obtained - we will be notifying each of those customers promptly.

Added Update:

We regret that our game servers and websites will not be online tonight (Monday, May 2, 2011.) We apologize for the inconvenience.
