July 06, 2007 - And More Furniture ... and Stuff

The GU37 Furniture Preview has another mini-article as well as two more screenshots. In addition, I recommend that you head over to the 'Zam network to check out Calthine's preview, based on a chat with Domino for more tradeskill goodness.

July 05, 2007 - More Furniture?!?

One week ago Game Update 36 hit the live servers, bringing with it lots of little things for crafters, including new carpenter furniture recipes. Domino even stopped by the EQ2 Traders Corner forums a time or three and promised us yet more furniture. Little did we know that she meant to make good on that promise this quickly, though! EQ2 Traders Corner is proud to announce an exclusive sneak-peek at furniture offerings that we will see with the release of GU37, which has not yet hit the Test server. Click here for details, as well as the first of several screenshots of incoming new furniture.

June 28, 2007 - GU 36 is Here!

The servers went down at 7am Pacific for the scheduled patch of Game Update 36. Estimated downtime is 3 hours for all servers other than Antonia Bayle and the Bazaar, which are expected to be down for 5 hours. It took a bit for the patch notes to go up on the patcher, but they're up now, and you can find a formatted copy of them here.

Need even more distraction during the downtime? Check out the temporary furniture gallery for the new GU36 carpenter items! You will also find that the Lights section of the Furniture Gallery has been updated to indicate which of the lights actually is a good lightsource for your home.

Still not enough to amuse and distract you during downtime? Did you already read the GU36 (Not So) Little Things preview that I put up last week ... and the (Nitty Gritty) Little Things article that I put up the other day? Have you also read all four of the Little Things series over at Ten Ton Hammer that I wrote?

EDIT: Well, then, I guess it is time to set down your drinks (protect your keyboard and all that) and check out the newest in the Little Things humor series at TenTonHammer. Join Mum and Coyote as they take a humorous look at Little Things: (Mis)Adventures in Harvesting

Edit 2: Ever wished you could tell which recipes made items for which classes, without having to open up an item examine info? In a change that I didn't notice until it went live today, this was added to the recipe examine! Mouse over items in your recipe book and give it a try!

EXTREMELY important addition!!

We just received the following information from Domino:
Due to a um ... undocumented feature? with the tradeskill respec NPCs that was cleverly discovered by Breanut and others when GU36 went live, they are going to be taking a short vacation while they learn how to fill out their paperwork properly.
The issue: if you respec, your character data remembers your old tradeskill class choice. If you therefore level on up WITHOUT going to talk to your crafting trainer at the appropriate times to tell him/her what you want your NEW class to be, you will automatically continue along the path of your OLD class.
For those who have respec'ed already, here is what you should do to ensure you don't have any problems:
1. talk to tradeskill respec guy
2. before you craft anything else, talk to your friendly local crafting trainer and tell him your new level 10 profession
3. as soon as you hit level 19, BEFORE you come close to level 20, go back to your friendly local crafting trainer and tell him your new level 20 profession
If you do not do this, you may find yourself dinging 20 back to your original tradeskill class. If this happens to you, you'll have to respec again.
The tradeskill respec folks are being sent off on holiday as I type this, and will return most likely on Tuesday next week with their paperwork back in order.
Apologies for the inconvenience, and please warn anyone you know who has respec'ed their tradeskill but may not have read the forums yet.
Her post about the issue can be found here on the SOE forums.

June 27, 2007 - Great Swords of Fire!

In celebration of the flaming sword and other furniture recipes arriving with GU36, Mum and a couple of friends ransack Stormhold for furniture ideas. Keep your eyes peeled for two final pieces in this (not so) mini-series over the next few days, if all goes well!

Edit: The link was changed, so if it failed to load for you before, try again!

June 26, 2007 - More Little Things!

Join guest author Rijacki from EQ2Alchemy and Mum as they investigate mysteriously colored loams in the newest installment in the Little things series over at Ten Ton Hammer, Little Things: Magic Dust.

Meanwhile, back on the home from Mum has added The (Nitty Gritty) Little Things with a plain-vanilla look at basic details behind some of the upcoming changes, including crafted ammo, furniture, food, and loam colors by tier.

June 24, 2007 - The Little Things: Magic Doors

Continuing on the theme of the many little, and sometimes not-so-little, tradeskill gems in GU36, I am proud to announce another humorous mini-story has been put up over at Ten Ton Hammer. Go on over and see why Mum is blaming the doors for her most spectacular flub of a timed writ, ever.

June 20, 2007 - Of Birthdays, Songs and Chocolate

First off, I would like to wish a very happy RL birthday to my beloved hubby, aka the House Ogre. Without him, there would be no site (and I'd likely have already ended up in a custom-padded room)!

Once you finish singing him a rousing round of happy birthday, I invite you all to head over to kithicor.org to check out what you missed! Click on the Norrath2Nite link, then on downloads, to check out the podcast of Jethal's show last night and to see why Mum is still blushing up a storm today. For those who want to hear just his new song, it can be found here, but I strongly recommend you go in through the kithicor.org link above, then click on the audio/video link, so you can check out some of his many, many other hysterical EQ/EQ2 parodies.

Once you finish with all that, the first of my humorous looks at the (Not So) Little Things for crafters that are due with GU36 is up over at Ten Ton Hammer, full of Chocolate Bliss.

June 18, 2007 - The (Not So) Little Things

Have your eyes glazed over after a glance at the ginormous Test Update Notes for GU36. Have you longed for a summary of just the ones that impact crafters? Fear not! Mum has tackled the top 15 "little things" of interest to tradeskillers in Game Udate 36, which is currently in the Test phase. Read all about the "(Not So) Little Things" here.

June 16, 2007 - A Musical Tuesday!

Many of you have run into the EQ/EQ2 parody songs that Jethal Silverwing has written and performed at one point or another (or at least seen announcements in our OOC Chat forum about them). If you have somehow missed them all this time, get yourself over to kithicor.org and take a listen!

It seems that Jethal is ramping up his fantastic humor another notch. Not only does he now have his own Norrath2Nite show on Online Gaming Radio, but this week will feature the debut of his newest EQ Parody Song, and rumor has it that it has something to do with tradeskills!

The show will be airing online at 7pm Pacific (10 Eastern), on Tuesday, June 19 (just a few hours before the House Ogre has a birthday). Details can be found in this thread on our forums.

June 13, 2007 - Furniture Sneak Peek!

One of our wonderful Test server contacts, Kethaera, has posted some sneak peeks of some of the upcoming GU36 furniture. As always, remember that these have just hit the Test Server, and things are still being tweaked and adjusted. Once they have had a proper shakedown on the Test server, we will work on getting a formal gallery page up with high-res screenshots.

June 13, 2007 - Crafting Levels and Quality

Domino is hard at work trying to unsnarl the many tangled threads that make up the crafting process in EQ2.

I'd like to talk a bit more about what's going to happen in the future with the different quality levels of the crafting process. To summarize, the intention is to remove the lower quality levels of crafted items, since (due to the way tradeskills and the game has evolved) pristine is nowdays considered the only desirable quality. As a crafter, I want all the items I can make to be desirable! And from the development side, it doesn't make sense to spend time and resources creating items that are only made by accident; it would be much preferable to use those time and resources more productively, for example, to add a larger number of different recipes.

Read more about it, and provide your own feedback here on the SOE Forums

June 12, 2007 - Someone Pinch Me ...

... I must be dreaming!

While the Game Update 36 Preview mentions not only a dressing room for checking out the looks on gear before equipping, and the long-asked-for ability to reset your tradeskill profession, these are not the only wonderful things in store for crafters. The Test Update Notes from today also mentions new furnishings inspired by Stormhold and area, color-coded loams, so you can more easily tell loams from different tiers apart, cheesecake recipes and chocolate-dipped fruit recipes! Keep an eye out for further details and additions during the testing phase of this very large new game update.

June 09, 2007 - Additions to the Fashion Gallery

Thanks to our fashion gallery goddess, Keisha of Permafrost, I have split out the Deathfist Citadel armor images into a new section of the fashion gallery and added images of three more armor sets. You can check them out here. Thanks again, Keisha!

May 24, 2007 -

Mum had moved several times over the years, and one thing always held true with each of those moves

Something always went wrong.

Whether it was being unable to move more quickly than a crawl for days due to straining something when trying to move it herself ... or due to friends wandering off with a prized item by "accident" while they were helping her move ...

Check out the complete tales of her misadventures with the Dwarven Moving (and Wrecking) Company over at Ten Ton Hammer. Once you're done with that, check out the small house moving guide that explains just what those patch notes mean with regards to moving.

May 23, 2007 - GU35 Now Live

Game Update 35 can now be patched on the live servers, and what an update it is! Full patch notes can be found here. However, I feel the need to highlight a couple things below, especially since not all of it is in the patch notes.

There is a new playable race, the arasai, available for those who own the Echoes of Faydwer expansion. Everyone can also access the two new zones, once they have their client download this optional free content.

In addition to many various tweaks and fixes, there are several things of interest to tradeskillers, though not all of them made it into the patch notes:

  • House moves have been made easier. Details are in the patch notes, and Mum has put up a House Move Guide here.
  • Many recipes where the rare version of the item wasn't in the same level recipe book as the common version of the same item were juggled around. Many of them did not make the final patch notes, but can be found in this set of Test patch notes from May 15
  • Also check out those Test patch notes for various other minor tweaks and fixe for tradeskill items and recipes. When/if you can confirm a change that requires a change in our database, please post to our Database Update Submissions forums with exact details.

Edit: fixed the link, added a link for the housing guide (then fixed the link for the housing guide to be the housing guide, and not the new humor article!!).

Edit of the edit: What would patch notes from Mum be without a couple edits, after all?! It seems that the instrument recipes may not have gone live yet, so I've pulled the notes on them. Hopefully they'll be ready "soon"!

May 22, 2007 - Getting Your Client Ready for Neriak

Grimwell posted a note about some things you could do to prepare for Wednesday's launch of Game Update 35:

Neriak comes to the live servers on Wednesday the 23rd, with Game Update #35! Due to the fact that this update includes a large amount of new data for download, the data for Neriak and Darklight Wood has been reserved as optional content. All players are capable of downloading and exploring these new zones and to do so you will need to change your Preferences in the EQII Launcher.
To do so select 'Preferences' from the list of buttons on the left side of the game launcher, and then ensure that the box for 'Additional Live Game Content' is checked.
Note that the Arasai race will also be available for players who have the Echoes of Faydwer expansion. You do not need EoF to play in Darklight Wood and Neriak, just to create an Arasai. The EQII team hopes you enjoy adventuring in the new starting zones!
Make sure to set your optional content download options soon, so you don't find yourself able to zone in!

May 21, 2007 - EQ2TC Interviews Emily "Domino" Taylor

SOE recently announced the hiring of Emily (Domino) Taylor as our new EQ2 tradeskill developer. She has already been on several whirlwind posting sprints on the SOE forums, on top of tackling various tradeskill issues, and has quite a bit on her plate already! She took some time out from her busy schedule, however, to answer a few questions for us. You can read the complete interview with Domino here.

edit: Doggone php does not like quotation marks and will not let me fix this article title at the moment. The House Ogre will tackle it with a larger hammer when he gets home from w*rk.

May 11, 2007 - Short Downtime 5/12/07

With all of the recent problems I am finding that I need to make a small change to some of the base code in the site. This will cause a short downtime on Saturday morning.
